Editor, AD PRO

Architectural Digest is seeking an Editor, AD PRO, for the premier resource for design professionals. The ideal candidate is fascinated by the people, ideas, and business shaping the design industry, with a sharp instinct for the stories and information entrepreneurial professionals need to know now.

This editor will conceive, assign, edit, and write smart, distinctive content across AD PRO, with a particular focus on the business of design: How designers build their practices, find clients, manage teams, navigate the market, and grow successful careers. They will help make AD PRO an essential resource through useful service journalism, compelling features, newsletters, trend reports, and coverage of the conversations shaping the industry.

The ideal candidate has impeccable editorial judgment, a strong and distinctive voice, a non-stop flow of original ideas, and a well-honed instinct for translating industry developments into compelling, useful journalism for design professionals.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conceive, assign, edit, and write distinctive AD PRO coverage, with a particular emphasis on trends and practical intelligence for design professionals.
  • Exercise strong editorial judgment, identifying the developments, shifts, and emerging conversations that matter to the design industry and finding the original AD PRO angle—what happened, why it matters, and what professionals need to know.
  • Write AD PRO newsletters, developing a strong editorial voice and identifying stories, formats, and recurring franchises that make them essential reads.
  • Develop ambitious service packages, trend reports, and recurring franchises, including coverage around major design fairs, industry moments, and AD editorial tentpoles.
  • Contribute to AD PRO programming across social, video, live events, and other platforms, including appearing on camera or moderating conversations as needed.
  • Build and maintain useful membership resources, including AD PRO Directory designer profiles, industry calendars, and other tools that strengthen AD PRO's value to members.
  • Work closely with senior leadership and the broader editorial team to set priorities and use audience and membership insights to inform coverage and support growth.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with designers, industry leaders, trade organizations, showrooms, fairs, and other sources throughout the design community.
  • Collaborate with consumer revenue, marketing, sales, and events teams on initiatives that support AD PRO growth while maintaining editorial independence and standards.
  • Support cross-platform and global publishing needs, including adapting select print stories for digital publication and managing the syndication of relevant stories across AD's international editions.
  • Represent AD PRO at industry, press, and AD events as needed.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of relevant editorial experience, with demonstrated knowledge of and enthusiasm for interiors, architecture, and the design industry.
  • A strong writer and editor with a distinctive voice, excellent editorial judgment, and an instinct for making professional and business subjects engaging and accessible.
  • Strong network of relevant sources, contacts, and freelance writers.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate original story ideas and develop them across newsletters, service journalism, features, and larger editorial packages.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance short-term and longer-lead projects and priorities.
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial approach and an interest in building an editorial product that serves both its audience and AD PRO's membership goals.

The expected base salary range for this position is from $72,000 - $94,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
