The Insights and Decision Science (IDS) team is dedicated to enabling improved decision making at Novartis by leveraging superior data to identify actionable insights that drive enhanced performance. We collaborate closely with the US business, bringing insights and challenging ideas to empower smarter, data-driven decision-making. Reporting into the VP, Head of AI and Innovation, this role is crucial in driving the transformative integration of (Gen)AI tools and technologies within Novartis.
This position is responsible for crafting and executing a visionary strategy that leverages AI to drive innovation and operational excellence. By collaborating with cross-functional leaders, the role seeks to identify and prioritize impactful AI initiatives that align with the company's strategic goals. The ED will champion the exploration of new AI advancements, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Additionally, this role involves building a high-performing team of AI specialists and ensuring the organization is equipped with the skills and knowledge to harness AI's full potential, ultimately reshaping business processes and enhancing value creation.
Key Responsibilities:

Build and lead a team of AI agile product owners, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning

Define and maintain the IDS AI strategy, including GenAI strategy, to ensure IDS and stakeholder alignment, leveraging established frameworks

Partner with IDS and functional leaders to identify which use cases should be prioritized for prototype development to that support NVS strategic objectives

Develop and communicate strategic vision across the organization to highlight how tools can streamline everyday tasks

Engage with data science and Insights & Analytics leaders to help teams better identify opportunities to incubate new technologies to support capabilities and needs

Highlight key AI success stories to identify opportunities for ongoing expansion and innovation

Responsible for overseeing the development of NVS AI Governance and Responsible AI strategies and related AI literacy strategy

Develop frameworks/metrics to estimate value generated by key AI use cases to support prioritization of investment

Collect and share AI pilot program “wins” to share with the broader NVS organization, and support any ongoing change management efforts to drive AI usage

Oversee the development and implementation of AI-related upskilling programs
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $204,400.00 and $379,600.00 a year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
Essential Requirements:
Novartis seeks an accomplished insights leader with experience and demonstrated success in leveraging AI technologies within commercial operations. Strong management, partnership, and intellectual maturity are needed. A comprehensive understanding of best practices in AI applications for pharmaceutical marketing and the dynamics of the global healthcare environment is crucial.
Additional qualifications are as follows:

Bachelor's degree in related field is required; Master of Science and/or MBA preferred

10+ years of experience in technology strategy, innovation, or leadership roles, preferably in the pharmaceutical or healthcare sectors

Deep understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, including regulatory requirements, market dynamics, and emerging AI technologies

Ability to develop and execute long-term strategic technology plans that align with organizational goals and drive innovation

Strong understanding of generative AI technologies, machine learning, and data analytics, with a focus on practical applications

Excellent leadership skills with the ability to build and lead high-performing teams of AI specialists

People management experience within AI, technology, or data-driven environments required

Must possess an ability to foster cross-functional alignment of key stakeholders to create a disciplined, ambitious, and collaborative, global, commercial operating platform

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions
