Job Description
Albemarle is hiring for an Early-Stage Project Director. This position is hybrid (3-days per week in office) and located in Charlotte, NC. For highly qualified candidates, remote work and other flexible arrangements may be an option.
The Early-Stage Project Director is responsible for leading and managing resource extraction studies, including Scoping and Pre-Feasibility, to support strategic decision-making and project development. This role ensures that studies are executed with technical excellence and alignment with business objectives while adhering to best practices and regulatory requirements.
This position is part of the lithium resources organization and will report to the Senior Director Resources Strategy and Business Planning.
What You Will Do
- Lead a multi-functional resource study with a total construction capital cost up to USD 2 billion
- Apply project management expertise to deliver scoping, conceptual, pre-feasibility, feasibility studies in line with Albemarle project planning process and industry best practices on time and budget
- Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive study results.
- Manage technical, economic, environmental, and social aspects of studies, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy.
- Oversee and coordinate field programs, including drilling campaigns, and sampling.
- Manage the operation of remote field camps, including logistics, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental policies.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including engineering firms, consultants, and regulatory bodies.
- Oversee risk assessments, trade-off analyses, and optimization studies to enhance project value.
- Provide technical and strategic input to ensure robust study conclusions and investment decisions.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, health and safety regulations, and ESG principles.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
What You Bring
Required:
- Bachelor of Engineering / Science in a resource related field (Mining / Geology / Metallurgy)
- 15+ years of experience in mining-specific projects' early study phases, including mega projects (>$1Bn)
- Extensive experience in the mining sector, with a strong background in project studies.
- Proven track record of managing complex mining studies from conceptualization to execution.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Knowledge of financial modeling, cost estimation, and project evaluation techniques.
- Familiarity with mining regulations, permitting processes, and ESG considerations.
- Proven ability to partner with and bring together cross-functional groups to run early study phase results and build long-standing relationships successfully
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and permitting processes
Preferred:
- Experience in all phases of projects, from concept through implementation, is preferred
- Experience within the lithium industry is a strong preference but not required
- Operational experience is an asset
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred
