Job profile:

Located onsite in Saint-Etienne, integrated into the R&D Team, you will develop and deliver Fiber Monitoring Solutions for our fiber optic product line, especially for a key product in our portfolio: ONMSi.

As an R&D Software Development Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Interacting with diverse areas within VIAVI (e.g., marketing, other divisions) to achieve business unit goals in development.

• Displaying experience and heavily participating in full lifecycle process of development for software systems.

• In conjunction with Marketing and Engineering teams, developing and maintaining a product aligned with industry architecture trends and the strategic direction of the business.

• Watching technology to follow-up on the market evolution and facilitate innovation.

• Working closely with other team members on different competencies like Security, DevOps, and Automation.

• Providing the technical expertise to support teams in field issues analysis.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Required Qualifications & Experience:

We are looking for individuals with skills and experience in the following topics: organization development, communication, and software development.

Organization Development and Communication:

• An engineering degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Information Technology discipline or similar, ideally from an accredited French engineering school with CPGE.

• Fluency in French and English.

• Ability to commit to four R&D project rotations in different locations, including international assignments up to 6 months at a time.

• Some software engineering related experience outside of a classroom environment like an internship/Co-Op, hackathon, research project, or related experience.

• Good interpersonal skills, being able to work autonomously but also have the ability to work in a team.

• Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and master new technologies and techniques.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and abilities.

• Good oral and written communications skills and experience interacting with our Product Line Manager and executive levels.

• Ability to work across sites, time zones and cultures to deliver on project goals in addition to overall company initiatives.

• Professional experience of Agile working methods would be an advantage.

Software Development:

• Languages: experienced in Java (Spring, J2EE) and Typescript.

• Web technologies: HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript/Angular, REST.

• Database knowledge: JPA, PostgreSQL.

• OpenSource solutions.

Platforms:

• Linux: RHEL, Ubuntu.

Plus factors:

• Python.

• Business Intelligence, Data Analytics.

• Swagger for RESTful APIs.

• Continuous Integration, CI/CD, DevOps.

• MicroServices, Docker containers.

• Various Network Communication Protocol experience.
