The Dual Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance, safety, asset preservation, and operational integrity of the Residence Inn and Springhill Suites Indianapolis Keystone. This leadership role oversees the daily operations of both maintenance departments, ensuring all building systems, equipment, preventive maintenance programs, life safety initiatives, and capital improvement projects are effectively managed across both hotels.
 
The Dual Chief Engineer partners closely with both General Managers and hotel leadership teams to prioritize maintenance initiatives, maximize operational efficiencies, maintain brand standards, and deliver an exceptional guest experience while protecting the company's physical assets.
 
Pay Range: $60,000-$75,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the maintenance operations of two hotel properties, ensuring all building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical equipment, pools, and other infrastructure, are operating safely and efficiently.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive preventive maintenance programs across both hotels to maximize equipment life, minimize downtime, and reduce emergency repairs.
  • Prioritize maintenance projects and daily work assignments between both hotels based on business needs, occupancy, guest impact, and operational priorities.
  • Administer and ensure compliance with all company life safety programs, including fire safety systems, emergency preparedness, security protocols, and regulatory inspections across both properties.
  • Ensure both hotels remain compliant with all local, state, federal, brand, and company safety standards, including OSHA requirements.
  • Monitor and manage departmental expenses, utility consumption, maintenance contracts, inventory, purchasing, and capital expenditures for both hotels while supporting financial objectives and maximizing cost efficiencies.
  • Develop and maintain annual capital improvement recommendations and long-term asset preservation plans in partnership with hotel leadership.
  • Lead, coach, develop, schedule, and evaluate maintenance team members across both hotels, fostering accountability, technical growth, teamwork, and a culture centered on safety and service excellence.
  • Effectively allocate labor and maintenance resources between both hotels to maximize productivity while ensuring timely completion of preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of outside contractors and vendors, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to company standards.
  • Conduct routine property inspections at both hotels to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, equipment deficiencies, and opportunities to improve guest satisfaction and asset performance.
  • Communicate regularly with both General Managers regarding property conditions, maintenance priorities, capital needs, and operational risks while providing practical and cost-effective solutions.
  • Ensure guest maintenance requests are responded to promptly and professionally, supporting high guest satisfaction scores and brand service standards.
  • Collaborate with department leaders at both hotels to proactively address maintenance concerns, operational challenges, renovations, and special projects.
  • Participate in leadership meetings at both hotels and contribute to operational planning, budgeting, forecasting, and overall business strategy.
  • Maintain strict adherence to key control procedures, lost and found protocols, emergency response procedures, and company security standards.
  • Support hotel renovations, room refreshes, equipment replacements, and other capital projects while minimizing disruption to guests and operations.
  • Serve as the primary engineering resource during emergencies and provide on-call support for both properties as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by hotel leadership, supporting the successful operation of both hotels.
  • Uphold the company's mission, values, and standards, ensuring all actions and decisions reflect the organization's commitment to integrity, accountability, service, and operational excellence.

Qualifications
Education:
  • Associate degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Building Systems, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
  • Previous hotel engineering leadership experience required.
  • Multi-property or multi-site engineering leadership experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Extensive knowledge of hotel mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, boilers, life safety systems, and general building maintenance.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with the ability to resolve complex maintenance issues.
  • Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations and all applicable local, state, federal, and brand safety requirements.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and manage preventive maintenance programs across multiple properties.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills with the ability to effectively manage competing priorities across two hotels.
  • Proven leadership experience developing high-performing maintenance teams through coaching, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with multiple leadership teams.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, service contracts, capital projects, and departmental budgets.
  • First-Class Operating Engineer's License (Boilers/Air Conditioning) preferred or ability to obtain where applicable.
  • Proficient with hotel maintenance systems, work order software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be able to work in various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, elevated work areas, and noisy mechanical environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to travel between assigned hotel properties and maintain a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities as business needs require.
