Come grow with us.

Balancing the world’s need for safe, reliable water with protecting this critical natural resource for the future requires a deep understanding of interconnected systems.

We work with clients across the entire project life cycle - from initial planning studies through final construction and operations and maintenance services — on both traditional and alternative project-delivery options (design-build, public-private partnerships and financing).

With a robust design and construction division, AECOM offers a unique perspective on designing projects that are fully constructible.

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Drainage Engineer to join our Perth team.

In this role, you’ll contribute to flood modelling, drainage, and water resources assessments across diverse projects in transport, defence, mining, and energy transition (including wind, solar, and BESS). You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams locally and nationally, while benefiting from mentoring by industry-leading specialists and opportunities to work across Western Australia and nationally.

This position suits an engineer with 3 - 7 years’ post-graduate experience looking to further develop their technical skills in a collaborative consultancy environment.

In this role, you will support the delivery of drainage modelling and design packages for major transport and civil infrastructure projects. You will work on technically challenging projects that require practical, coordinated, and design-focused solutions across large road corridors.

How you'll make a difference

  • Undertaking drainage network modelling and design for major road and transport infrastructure projects
  • Developing and documenting stormwater drainage systems, including pit and pipe networks, longitudinal drainage and corridor drainage solutions
  • Preparing design models, drawings, calculations and technical reports
  • Coordinating with broader civil, road, water and multidisciplinary design teams to achieve integrated project outcomes
  • Supporting the delivery of projects from planning and concept design through to detailed design
  • Contributing to proposal support and maintaining strong client service outcomes
  • Continuing to develop your technical skills, project delivery capability and local market knowledge

Qualifications

We are looking for a motivated and technically capable professional who can contribute to project delivery and continue to grow within the team.

The qualities that help you thrive

  • Experience delivering work within a consulting, design or engineering environment, ideally 3-7 years
  • Demonstrated experience in drainage network modelling and drainage design, particularly for major transport or road corridor projects
  • Proficiency in 12d, Drains and AutoCAD
  • A sound understanding of drainage design principles for linear infrastructure and road corridor environments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project team
  • Familiarity with relevant Australian and Western Australian drainage design standards and guidance
  • Exposure to hydrologic or hydraulic assessment tools that support drainage design outcomes

The following would be viewed favourably, but are not mandatory:

  • Experience in Main Roads WA, Department of Defence, local government or other Australian transport authority project environments
  • Experience coordinating drainage design within larger transport infrastructure projects
  • Progress toward chartership or professional registration
