Purpose/Description

DPS Supervisors 2 in the Structures (Bridges) Section of the Roads Maintenance Division supervise both skilled and unskilled employees in the repair and maintenance of bridges and other structures. This employee supervises employees who perform a variety of skilled tasks, which include the repair and maintenance of concrete, steel and wooden bridges and moveable bridges, installing and maintaining pumps, construction of pump foundations, repairing pump houses, replacing heavy shaft bearing and machinery on movable bridges and repairing and maintaining gates, oversight of false decking placements and repairs, temporary support placement and removal, and attenuator repairs and maintenance on county and state structures.


Responsibilities
  • Required Knowledge
    • Mechanical-Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
    • Administration and Management-Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
    • Public Safety and Security-Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
    • Building and Construction Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of structures such as highways, bridges and structures.
    • Knowledge of machines and tools
    • Knowledge of MDOT Guidelines
  • Required Tasks
    • Major Duties:
    • Supervise and train skilled and unskilled workers on bridge work sites.
    • Provide technical expertise and ensuring all safety procedures are met.
    • Plan and issue work schedules.
    • Monitor employees work levels and review work performance, discipline when necessary.
    • Requisition materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment or replacement parts.
    • Other Duties include:
    • Inspect, test, measure completed work.
    • Ensure safety procedures to be followed.
    • Ensure the placement of proper signs for safety.
    • Other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Educational Requirements
    • A high school diploma or its equivalent AND
    • A valid State of Michigan Driver's license and an acceptable safe driving record. CDL with an "A" and "N" endorsement
  • Experience Requirements
    • Regular Status as a Bridge Worker or a Bridge Mechanic AND
    • Three (3) years’ experience repairing and maintaining bridges, two (2) years which must have been above the class of Laborer
  •  

Skills Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Journeyman's or Master's Electrical license from the State of Michigan
  • Ability to obtain airport credentials
  • Regular status in the class of Electrician or Electrician Supervisor 1
  • At least two years of experience within the last five years as an Electrician in the Bridges/Structures Maintenance Section of the Roads Division
  • Valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License with Class A and N designations, including air brakes test
  • Acceptable driving record
