Job Summary
TOPS SCADA Provide complex technical support and training for computer Energy Management (EMS) Systems or Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and other technical infrastructure used in Transmission Operations centers. Position requires a high degree of adaptability, and a focus on meeting customer needs and continuous improvement in the systems supported.Job Description
What you’ll do:Transmission and Distribution SCADA Displays- Provide leadership and guidance to Analysts in problem resolution and support activities through training and mentorship.
- Represent the SCADA Display group in task forces, working groups, and special projects with minimal supervision.
- Ensure reliable operations of EMS and SCADA systems, making recommendations for improvements in quality and reliability.
- Maintain and enhance real-time data interfaces, tools, and software for SCADA.
- Stay updated on current technologies to keep EMS and SCADA tools current and effective.
- Build and maintain custom online displays for EMS and SCADA systems.
- Build and maintain tabular displays for EMS and SCADA systems.
- Define and implement internal standards for EMS and SCADA.
- Conduct complex troubleshooting and problem resolution across all areas of expertise.
- Provide after-hours support for EMS/SCADA systems as necessary.
- Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college / university in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related technical field; or high school diploma and two years related military or electric utility technical experience.
- OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrates Entry Level understanding of operational practices of applicable equipment and software in assigned areas of knowledge
- Strong skills in communication, issue resolution, organization, and facilitation are essential.
- Solid understanding of the business unit / operating company systems is preferred.
- Experience with SCADA systems is preferred.
- Perform troubleshooting and problem resolution in assigned areas of knowledge with Senior Level guidance.
- Provide after-hours support for the EMS/SCADA systems as needed. Begin to gain an understanding of current technology utilized by AEP and understanding how it applies to SCADA with Senior Level guidance.
- Beginning to gain an understanding of basic Protection and Control application and the effect it has on overall SCADA with Senior Level guidance.
- Begins to gain an understanding of what each type of equipment is in the substation with Senior Level guidance.
- Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college / university in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related technical field; or high school diploma and two years related military or electric utility technical experience.
- Two (2) year DMS/EMS/SCADA experience with associate’s degree and four (4) years of experience with a high school diploma. Individuals with a bachelor’s degree with no DMS/EMS/SCADA experience may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.
- In addition to the DMS/EMS/SCADA experience noted above: Detailed knowledge is required in one (1) of the following areas:
- Application development Operating System support Computer system administration Database technologies and support
- OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrates a more detailed entry level understanding of operational practices of applicable equipment and software in assigned areas of knowledge
- Strong skills in communication, issue resolution, organization, and facilitation are essential.
- Solid understanding of the business unit / operating company systems is preferred.
- Experience with SCADA systems is preferred.
- Perform troubleshooting and problem resolution in assigned areas of knowledge with Senior Level guidance.
