This position reports to:
Division President__
More about the role
We are seeking a Division AI & Data Transformation Lead to set up and lead a new function that turns AI, advanced analytics and data into real business value across the Division. Reporting to the Division President, you will lead the Division's AI, Data and Information Systems (IS) organization and its team, and bring capabilities that are currently spread across the Division into one strategic function. Working closely with the Division Leadership Team, Business Lines and functions, you will translate business priorities into an AI and data roadmap that delivers measurable business value. You will ensure the Division's AI, data and IS capabilities are aligned around the opportunities that matter most and have the greatest potential to improve productivity, support growth and strengthen customer value.
As the Division's AI & Data Transformation Lead, you will identify where AI can create the greatest value, prioritize opportunities across the Division, and ensure investments deliver measurable business impact. This is a strategic and hands-on role. You'll set the direction and stay close to day-to-day operations, so AI becomes part of how we engineer, deliver projects, serve customers and run our business.
If you're an AI and data expert who wants to turn strategy into visible results, and build something new with global reach, this role is for you!
Location: Finland (Helsinki), Sweden (Västerås), Norway (Fornebu), USA (Miramare) or Denmark (Copenhagen), Czechia (Ostrava)
Travel: Global travel required (please see below)
Work model: Hybrid
You will be mainly accountable for:
- AI and data strategy: Build and own the Division's AI and data strategy, including data foundations, governance, accessibility, quality and advanced analytics capabilities required to scale AI across the Division.
- Lead and build the AI, Data and IS team: Take ownership of the Division's AI, Data and IS teams and bring capabilities that are currently spread across the Division into one strategic function. Set up its structure, ways of working and priorities. Lead, develop and engage the team, building a high-performing, collaborative culture focused on delivering business value.
- Use-case portfolio and value: Run one Division-wide pipeline of AI opportunities. Challenge business cases before development starts. Prioritize by measurable value, scalability, data readiness and effort.
- Common AI and data platform: Make "reuse before build" the default. Create shared AI components, data access patterns and data foundations, so Business Lines and functions don't build the same solutions separately.
- AI and data governance: Set governance for responsible AI, data quality and access, cybersecurity and compliance, the lifecycle of models and applications, and cost control. Keep it aligned with ABB Group requirements.
- Adoption at scale: Drive the adoption of AI and data-driven decision making across the Division, moving from isolated pilots to scalable business capabilities. Build AI and data skills among leaders and selected power users, set up communities of practice, and track adoption and the value delivered.
- ABB AI and IS interface: Be the single Marine & Ports contact for Group and Automation AI, Data and IS initiatives. Make sure the Division's IS landscape and enterprise applications support the AI and data agenda and stay aligned with ABB IS and cybersecurity strategy. Bring in existing ABB capabilities instead of rebuilding them and feed maritime and industrial needs back into them.
Qualifications for the role:
- Expert in AI and data: deep, hands-on understanding of AI (including machine learning and generative AI), advanced analytics, data architecture and platforms, data governance and responsible AI
- Proven AI and data strategist: experience defining AI and data strategies and turning them into solutions that scale and deliver measurable business impact
- Product-owner mindset: able to assess business cases, prioritize a portfolio and make clear go/stop decisions
- People leader and organization builder: proven experience leading and developing teams, leading change, driving AI adoption and building high-performing teams in a global, matrix environment
- Influence and collaboration: ability to influence senior stakeholders, build strong relationships and drive adoption across Business Lines and functions, with a collaborative and inclusive leadership style
- Good understanding of IS, enterprise applications and cybersecurity
- Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems or a related field
- Fluent English and willingness to travel
Nice to Have
- Experience in marine, ports, energy or other industrial, project- and service-based businesses
- Hands-on experience with enterprise data and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Snowflake)
What We Offer
- A high-visibility role with real influence on how a global Division uses AI and data
- The freedom to shape a new function, strategy and team
- Access to ABB's wider AI, data and technology expertise and community
- A collaborative, international environment with continuous learning and strong development opportunities
Travel
This is a global role with a global team, and you'll travel as much as the role's targets require. You'll spend time with the Division leadership team, Business Lines and stakeholders across ABB. For comparison, other Division leadership team members travel about 30%.
