The Role:

We are seeking a Distinguished Software Engineer to focus on building and operating the ecosystem used to develop and manufacture individualized medicines to combat cancer. This role requires a visionary leader and a hands-on builder who provides strategic technical leadership and direction while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams in manufacturing, quality control, data, robotics, AI platforms, and other areas within Digital to deliver technical solutions that enhance efficiency, accelerate delivery to patients, and reduce the costs of our medicines.
Here's What You’ll Do:

Break down complex problems into simple, straightforward solutions, understanding system interdependencies and limitations.

Drive the technical vision by providing expert knowledge in performance, multi-tenancy, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices, and guide teams in delivery.

Provide overall architectural guidance for engineering initiatives, while establishing principles, frameworks, and standards to promote the adoption of the best engineering practices.

Manage major technical incidents, minimizing downtime and impact while implementing strategic corrective actions to prevent future recurrences.

Balance technical leadership with strong business judgment to make the right decisions about technology choices for the use case.

Help the engineering team deliver excellent results through rapid iterations and cultivate engineering and operational excellence through metrics and continuous learning.

Scale yourself through comprehensive documentation.

Represent the company at technical conferences, industry events, and in interactions with partners and customers, promoting Moderna's technical expertise and thought leadership.
Here's What You'll Need:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

10+ years of experience as a software engineer
-
5+ years of experience working on large, complex projects in a technical leadership capacity.

5+ years of proven experience in designing, building, and operating complex software systems, preferably in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.

Proven expertise in designing and building complex distributed systems.
-
Deep hands-on technical expertise in large-scale full stack development and building complex distributed systems.

Strong knowledge of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.

Under Washington State law, Moderna is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range for the jobs covered by this description. Base compensation for these positions in Washington State range from $260,000 - $285,000. Actual salary determinations will take into account factors such as work location, prior education and experience, job-related knowledge, and demonstrated skills. Compensation decisions are made on the facts and circumstances of each case.
