We seek a highly experienced and skilled Distinguished Scientist with expertise in Internet Systems Research.
Verisign’s technology portfolio centers on the Domain Name System and intersects with a range of infrastructure technologies, from the Border Gateway Protocol to Routing Public-Key Infrastructure to web Public-Key Infrastructure to network monitoring and threat intelligence. Complementing Verisign’s subject-matter experts in these technologies, the Distinguished Scientist takes a system-level view, focusing on the complex interdependencies among the technologies and how to model, measure and manage them to meet specific business requirements. In addition, the Distinguish Scientist guides the company’s research collaborations with university partners and industry research labs.
The Distinguished Scientist’s technical contributions to the company’s initiatives would include system design and analysis, protocol design and analysis, and measurement research. The contributions would be delivered through academic publications, industry standards engagement, and intellectual property development. The role brings both long-term vision and near-term impact.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field
- PhD in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field, highly preferred
- 15+ years experience researching, designing, analyzing and measuring internet protocols and systems
- 15+ years related experience communicating complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to executive leadership, industry and academic experts and non-technical stakeholders
- Advanced knowledge of the hierarchical internet domain name system, the challenges in providing high-reliability DNS services, and the interdependencies between DNS and other services
- A commitment to continuous learning, staying updated with the latest industry and academic trends and technologies
- Advanced experience writing academic publications and industry standards
- Strong working relationships with the academic community including experience defining and/or delivering funded research programs and participating in academic peer review and advisory roles
This position is based in our Reston, Virginia office and offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule.
The pay range for this role is $194,200 to $262,800.
The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
