The Department of Natural Sciences invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month tenure-track or tenured faculty position of NOAA LMRCSC Distinguished Research Scientist. The Department of Natural Sciences offers B.S. degrees in various disciplines, and M.S and Ph.D. interdisciplinary programs in Marine-Estuarine Environmental Sciences (MEES), and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Toxicology.
Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership to expand the Center’s research work in NOAA fisheries
related areas.
• Facilitate and coordinate research among the Center partner institutions
and with NOAA Fisheries.
• Seek and attract external funding to support the LMRCSC as well as assist
and involve other faculty and students in promoting research and
scholarship.
• Coordinate the annual LMRCSC Science meetings, Request for Proposals
(RFP), and proposal review process conducted by the Center’s Technical
Advisory Board.
• Facilitate student professional development.
• Serve as the Center’s point of contact for initiating student Experiential
Research Training Opportunities at NOAA.
• Conduct research in his/her field of expertise.
• Recruit and mentor graduate students.
• Publish in scholarly journals.
• Teach one course a semester in his/her area of specialty.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in marine science, fisheries science, biology or zoology, from a
regionally accredited institution of higher education.
• At least ten years of successful teaching and/or research experience in a
university, federal or state agency.
• Significant record of grantsmanship, research, and publication in marine
and/or fisheries sciences.
• Evidence of participation in professional organizations.
Preferences:
• Advanced open-water Diving or Instructor Certifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and coordinate an interdisciplinary
research program.
• Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Demands:
• May require extended periods of standing, bending, sitting at desk.
• May require lifting up to 25 lbs.
• May require communication with a variety of constituents externally and
internally.
• May require operation of a variety of office equipment.
