Dispatcher – Westport, CT
$25–$29 per hour based on experience
Monday–Friday, occasional weekend coverage | 6:00 AM–5:00 PM with extended mid-day break
At First Student, our Dispatchers are a constant reflection of our company’s commitment to safety and customer service. The Dispatcher is responsible for dispatching all buses, ensuring on-time performance of routes, and supporting drivers and monitors on the front line.

- Oversee all routes and bus scheduling
Counsel and coach drivers and monitors as needed
Handle high volumes of phone and radio communication
Receive and document scheduling issues or driver concerns, reporting to the Operations Supervisor or Contract Manager
Serve as the primary communication liaison with contracted customers
Manage charter reservations, billing, or driver payroll as assigned
Provide quick solutions to pick-up and drop-off challenges
Assist with day-to-day operational oversight and special projects
Perform miscellaneous clerical duties or serve as a backup driver if needed
- 3–5 years of relevant experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Basic knowledge of radio dispatch equipment
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Ability to perform well under time constraints and deadlines
Computer literacy required
Previous experience in terminal operations, dispatch, or as a driver preferred
Subject to DOT drug testing and physical (49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason)
