Job Summary: 


Cary Medical Center is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Discharge Analyst to join our team. This position plays a key role in coordinating, monitoring, reviewing, and facilitating the timely and accurate discharge process for patients throughout the organization.

   

The Discharge Analyst is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, reviewing, and facilitating the timely and accurate discharge process for patients at Cary Medical Center. This position works collaboratively with nursing, case management, providers, registration, billing, utilization review, and ancillary departments to ensure discharge documentation, are completed accurately and efficiently.

  

The Discharge Analyst assists in reducing avoidable delays, improving patient throughput, supporting compliance with federal and state regulations, and enhancing continuity of care and reimbursement accuracy.

Essential Job Duties: 

  • Reviews discharge records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with organizational standards and payer requirements within 3 days of discharge.
  • Ensures required discharge documentation is completed within established timelines.
  • Collaborates with Revenue Cycle staff to address discharge-related billing or reimbursement concerns .
  • Assists with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer, and regulatory compliance requirements associated with discharge status and documentation.
  • Maintains accurate discharge tracking logs, reports, and departmental records.
  • Assists leadership with audits, data collection, and regulatory surveys.
  • Participates in departmental quality improvement and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Track and report monthly hospital statistics accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Monitor, compile, and report monthly quality indicators to support organization quality initiatives.
  • Provide assistance and backup support to file technicians as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of healthcare, case management patient access, revenue cycle, discharge planning, or related experience preferred.
  • Associate' s or Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, nursing, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health record systems and discharge analytics/reporting preferred.

Availability Requirements:

  • Must be able to work any shift, holiday, on-call and weekends. Patient load may interfere with work breaks.

Skills Required

  • Minimum of two (2) years of healthcare, case management, patient access, revenue cycle, discharge planning, or related experience
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, nursing, or related field

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective cross-department communication
