Job Description:

The Director Yield Management sets the vision and strategic direction for the Revenue Management Yield Team, driving inventory and yield strategies that optimize over $20B in passenger revenue. They’ll manage the passenger revenue forecast and oversee Analysts responsible for regional performance, ensuring strategies maximize revenue across a significant portion of the network. They’re accountable for decisionmaking and execution of inventory and yield actions while providing expert airline industry and Revenue Management system knowledge to align with commercial objectives and enterprise goals. The Director Yield Management partners across Commercial Teams to ensure highquality, timely execution that maximizes revenue performance and supports Southwest’s longterm growth.

Job Responsibilities
  • Jointly responsible with other Commercial Leaders for achieving revenue goals
  • Own decision making and accountability for inventory/yield management strategies to optimize $20B+ of passenger revenue
  • Responsible for the set up and management of all seat inventory for the duration of the booking curve
  • Responsible for inventory/yield management decisions related to Sales, SWA Vacations, corporate fares, and Federal Government fares with input from the Southwest Business Team
  • Provide Legendary Internal Customer Service via communications with Revenue Management and Senior Leadership and other Departments
  • Aid in the development, alignment, and execution of the cross-departmental and intra-Revenue Management Department strategies and goals supporting revenue optimization
  • Provide thought Leadership on inventory/yield management topics and projects, both within Revenue Management and in coordination with other Departments
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the theories and concepts of inventory/yield management strategies and operations
  • Knowledge of the theories and concepts of Revenue Management
  • Knowledge of airline inventory/yield management strategy, systems, and tools
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Ability to clearly communicate impact of industry pricing and capacity strategies
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively and professionally with all levels of Internal Customers
  • Ability to decipher passenger behavior and determine the best response when necessary
  • Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events)
  • Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong, which does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • Demonstrated experience in directly or indirectly leading team(s)
  • Advanced level Business Acumen in functional area
  • Seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
    • Revenue Management or Airline Pricing
    • Airline industry
    • Airline inventory/yield management strategy, systems, and tools
  • Preferred: Degree in an analytical field like Business, Finance, or Engineering 
  • Preferred: Minimum 3 years of Leadership Experience

  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986

  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed which may include weekends

Pay & Benefits:

  • Competitive market salary from $185,750 per year to $206,400 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
