ABOUT US
Peak Design makes radical, meticulously-engineered gear for detail-obsessed people. Our backpacks, travel bags, camera gear, and phone accessories are used dang-near everywhere. If you’ve visited Machu Picchu, Tokyo, or an REI store in the last 10 years, you’ve been within ogling distance of a Peak Design product.
Alongside our award-winning gear is a brand that truly reflects who we are as people—passionate about design, deeply caring about our environmental and social impact, unafraid to speak up, radically transparent, and generally down to clown. Whether we’re explaining a product, running a sale, launching a nonprofit, sponsoring a film, or razzing the biggest company on Earth, we do it with our trademark honesty, warmth, and wit. Through our products and our brand, we aim to create delight, and leave this world better than how we found it.
ABOUT THE JOB
Passionate about creating epic web experiences? Got experience managing high-profile ecommerce sites? Well, you're in the right place. We’re looking for an experienced, senior-level manager to be responsible for the entire end-to-end customer journey on the Peak Design website and used gear Marketplace.
You will define and drive the strategy and roadmap of our web experience. You’ll maintain an eagle eye over every nook and cranny of our website, sniffing out bugs, and identifying and prioritizing areas to optimize. You’ll drive the evolution of our website according to our business and brand priorities, while aiming to create delight for every user and in every workflow.
You’ll also oversee the execution of web experience projects. You’ll ensure that our tech team is abreast of the web roadmap and able to plan their sprints accordingly. Whether we’re launching 20 new SKUs, building a motorsports landing page, or publishing our next sustainability report, it’s your job to define requirements, delegate work (particularly for visual/UX design and copywriting), and coordinate with the tech team to get it done on time.
To meet your goals, you’ll act as a liaison both internally and externally—coordinating with our tech, customer service, and retail teams, as well as with external vendors like our CRO and advertising partners. You’ll also have a stellar team of UX and senior graphic designers who you’ll coordinate with often.
We’re looking for someone with deep experience managing world-class ecommerce sites who can jump in quickly and begin adding value immediately. You’ll operate with lots of autonomy, but you’ll have the support and close company of our wildly talented, creative, and hilarious marketing team.
Responsibilities:
- Become the expert on our web customer journey, from the very first touchpoint to everything beyond.
- Define and prioritize the strategy and roadmap for our web user experience, both short and long-term.
- Be a fierce advocate for delightful customer experiences, while also accounting for business needs and team bandwidth.
- Own the full gamut of web workflows, including shopping and checkout, product registration, support & warranty flows, industry purchase programs, reviews, upsell modals, user accounts, and everything in-between.
- Project manage the execution of web user experience projects, coordinating cross-functional groups of contributors (like UX designers & copywriters) and liaising with other teams (like tech and customer service).
- Own the relationship between our marketing and tech teams, ensuring web priorities are well-communicated and there is an efficient review/approval process when pushing things live.
- Own the relationship with our CRO vendor, through whom we validate a majority of our web improvement hypotheses.
- Coordinate with persons and teams who own upstream and downstream customer journies (e.g. our advertising vendor, or our customer service team).
- Define & drive strategy for continued website globalization (50% of our customers are outside the US, and we warehouse inventory in 6 different countries).
- Partner with the analytics team to understand web performance, opportunities, impacts of changes.
- These responsibilities apply to both our website and our used gear marketplace.
- As the team continues to grow, manage a small team of individuals.

WHY US?
Thanks to the folks at Outside Magazine, we can tell you that Peak Design is an objectively great place to work. Why? We provide opportunities to go deep in your craft, work both autonomously and collaboratively, drive your professional growth, and recharge with flexible Fridays and unlimited paid time off -- the saucy list of perks and benefits goes on. So, how do we maintain this exquisite way of working while also pulling off an exceptionally thoughtful brand and product line? A close-knit culture that values transparency, community, trust, and questioning the status quo.
Many employees find the way we run our business to be radically different from what they’ve experienced elsewhere. You might call it the opposite of micromanagement: employees are often expected to set their own priorities and roadmaps for their areas of the business. Who thrives here? Self-starters. Question-askers. People who make their own to-do lists. Folks who can do a little bit of everything. People who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty with nitty-gritty details in order to see a vision through.
If you prefer to work in a more traditional corporate environment, Peak Design might not be the place for you. But if you’re pickin’ up what we’re putting down, we look forward to hearing from you!
DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION & BELONGING
At Peak Design we believe a diverse team is an innovative team and something worth celebrating. A range of perspectives and backgrounds creates a stronger and more creative work environment (not to mention more fun). We’re committed to equality and inclusivity across race, gender, age, religion, identity, and experience.
Some candidates may see a long list of job requirements and feel discouraged because they don’t match every single bullet point – we strongly encourage you to apply anyway! If what we do resonates with you, and you feel excited and able to contribute, we’re equally stoked for the opportunity to engage with you.
