Position summary:
The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) seeks a Director, Web Design & Development to support the development and execution of high-impact digital and print marketing materials that advance MICA’s strategic enrollment goals while ensuring alignment with the College’s overarching brand. This role will focus on designing and developing assets for recruitment and enrollment communications while also serving as the primary web designer/developer for Strategic Communications.
The ideal candidate is a versatile digital and print designer with a strong foundation in graphic design, web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), motion graphics, and UX/UI design. Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing, this role will collaborate closely with the Creative Director for Brand Management to maintain MICA’s visual identity while creating targeted marketing materials that engage and convert prospective students.
This is a senior-level design role that requires both creative vision and executional agility. The successful candidate will bring technical expertise, a solutions-oriented mindset, and the ability to balance strategic branding with enrollment-driven marketing initiatives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Enrollment Marketing Design & Production:

Design and produce print and digital marketing assets for Enrollment Management, including program brochures, infographics, on-campus event materials and environmental graphics, social media content, and video/motion graphics.

Develop interactive and animated presentations using tools like Figma, PowerPoint, and other prototyping platforms.

Collaborate with Strategic Communications and Enrollment Management to develop marketing collateral that effectively communicates MICA’s value proposition and academic offerings to prospective students.
Web Design & Development:
-
Serve as the primary web designer and developer for Strategic Communications, ensuring MICA’s digital presence is modern, accessible, and aligned with branding.

Maintain and enhance MICA’s public-facing website using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and CMS tools (experience with BigTree CMS or LAMP-based environments is a plus).

Develop landing pages, campaign microsites, and interactive web experiences to support recruitment initiatives.

Work with internal stakeholders to improve website usability, navigation, and content presentation.
Motion Graphics & Video Production:

Design motion graphics, animations, and short-form videos to support enrollment marketing campaigns.

Edit and produce video content for social media, web, and digital advertising.
Collaboration & Brand Alignment:
-
Work closely with the Creative Director for Brand Management to ensure consistency in MICA’s visual identity while addressing the unique needs of enrollment marketing.

Partner with internal teams, including Enrollment Management and Strategic Communications, to develop creative solutions that drive student engagement.

Manage project timelines and collaborate with vendors, freelancers, and printers as needed.

Utilize project management tools like Asana to track workflow and deliverables.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-
Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects), Figma, and PowerPoint.

Strong skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, with experience working in a CMS environment (BigTree CMS or LAMP-based CMS preferred but not required).

Experience with motion graphics and animation for digital marketing.

Ability to design and develop interactive presentations and prototypes in Figma and PowerPoint.

Understanding of UX/UI principles for web and digital experiences.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders while also being an independent, proactive problem solver.

Knowledge of project management tools like Asana is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media, Web Design, or a related field.

5+ years of experience in digital/print design, web development, and motion graphics.
-
A strong portfolio showcasing expertise in print and digital design, web development, and motion graphics.

Experience working in marketing agencies, or in-house creative teams is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Design, Digital Media, or related field.

Experience in higher education marketing and enrollment communications.

Experience in the arts and entertainment industry.

Familiarity with BigTree CMS, WordPress, or other LAMP-based CMS platforms.

Experience using Google Web Designer, HubSpot, or Salesforce.
Conditions of Employment:
-
Remote position, with option of onsite work for candidates based in the DMV area. Quarterly visits to campus required for remote employees.
