Director of User Experience, Commerce Hub

We’re searching for a results-driven design leader to join our UX team to help shape the future of our newest product line, Commerce Hub. You’ll be leading and developing a team of product designers and partnering with product management, engineering, and research leaders to drive the vision for helping thousands of small/medium businesses run their commerce process in HubSpot. This role has an opportunity to have a major impact in an emerging business line that is critical to HubSpot’s business strategy. We value leaders who are empathetic coaches, set a high bar for design quality, and are excited about collaborating with cross-functional partners. This leader should also have the ability to communicate and influence a large dynamic organization to help bring the team’s ideas to the world.

What types of problems do we work on?

The Commerce Hub Product Line is a dynamic 0-to-1 space where leaders need to be adaptable and resourceful. Those who thrive in this role will exhibit these qualities. We focus on product-led growth, meaning we run numerous experiments to optimize customer conversion. Our product is entirely self-serve, requiring a seamless product experience from discovery to adoption. We’re looking at 2024 as a year to establish a team operating system that will help us achieve our growth goals. If you’re a design leader who likes the challenge of maturing a team, here are some things to get excited about:

  • We're helping small and medium-sized companies grow their businesses with our billing/invoicing tools and payments processing solutions
  • From small teams just spinning up to medium-sized orgs that are scaling, we design products that help the front office deliver a more connected experience for their customers. Offering an efficient B2B buying experience across a variety of channels is core to delivering that connected experience.
  • We’re transforming how our customers sell by building a sales experience that deeply integrates their sales pipelines with commerce data, providing greater efficiency, better reporting, and more accurate forecasting
  • You’ll be joining an existing leadership team with UX, PM, and Engineering peers. You’ll work together to set the product strategy and operating system for the product line
  • You’ll work with your direct team of 2 managers and ~12 IC designers on design strategy and execution
  • You’ll partner with several UX leaders to create a healthy culture and sense of belonging in Commerce Hub

  • Design at HubSpot is both grounded in experience design fundamentals and a deep belief that small autonomous teams are the best way to get excellent work in customer's hands.
  • We value solving for the customer above all else
  • We give each designer the responsibility and ownership to chart the course for their designs throughout the product and across teams
  • We deeply respect User Research and Content Design, and work closely and cooperatively with them whilst designing
  • We carefully lead and maintain a high-functioning, usability-centered design system and design language with our front end teammates
  • We're embedded on small teams with engineers and product managers in sane, sustainable ratios.

We are looking for people who:

  • Have partnered with product and engineering leaders to establish objectives, align on high-level strategies, and inspire teams to execute
  • Bring demonstrated success delivering intuitive products - we value consumer-grade experience quality while solving enterprise problems
  • Have a developed sense for balancing speed, quality, and consistency of design 
  • Have experience leading design or UX in B2B commerce and/or payments. Direct experience leading product-led growth design teams is highly desirable
  • Practiced in coaching designers to identify and drive impact that is great for customers and good for business through clear and actionable feedback
  • Can manage complex scenarios and drive clarity from ambiguity
  • Co-create design strategy with peer leaders and designers and influence execution
  • Several years of building and scaling a high-performing team of designers, leads, and managers
  • Understand how to foster team health and bring a sense of mission as functional lead of a line of business. This includes creating a safe space for feedback, thoughtful team organization, aligning strengths to problems, and providing opportunities for career growth through additional responsibility or impact

Location: This role can be based anywhere in the USA, or Quebec / Ontario, Canada.

Cash compensation range: $236,000 - $377,600 USD Annually

The cash compensation above includes base salary, on-target commission for employees in eligible roles, and annual bonus targets under HubSpot’s bonus plan for eligible roles. In addition to cash compensation, all HubSpotters are eligible to participate in HubSpot’s equity plan to receive restricted stock units (RSUs). Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay. Individual compensation packages are based on a few different factors unique to each candidate, including their skills, experience, qualifications and other job-related reasons.
