The Director, Underwriting Strategic Initiatives, is a pivotal role responsible for driving strategic priorities and high-impact projects across core Underwriting by providing strategic guidance, managing key initiatives, and ensuring effective collaboration across departments. Reporting to the Chief Underwriting Officer, this role is essential for bringing together diverse perspective and expertise to solve complex business challenges
Strategic Partner to Chief Underwriting Officer
- Partner with the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) to understand their strategic priorities and manage key strategic and operational initiatives.
- Act as a trusted advisor, providing insights and recommendations to support executive decision-making
- Foster strong working relationships to facilitate open communication and strategic alignment within the Underwriting senior leadership team
Problem-Solving and Decision Support
- Proactively identify challenges and opportunities within the organization, working collaboratively with senior leaders to develop solutions
- Provide decision support to the CUO, leveraging a data-driven approach and cross-functional input.
- Drive the resolution of complex issues by bringing together the right stakeholders and resources
Program Leadership and Integration
- Drive the execution of critical projects and initiatives across underwriting impacting broader organization.
- Coordinate and align cross-functional teams to ensure project milestones and deliverables are met.
- Partner with EPMO for the coordination and execution of high-priority projects and initiatives, ensuring timely completion.
- Collaborate with the Chief of Staff to provide strategic support to the CEO and Executive team in the development and execution of enterprise-level strategies
Drive Operational Excellence
- Oversee the development and implementation of processes that enhance efficiency within the underwriting function
- Translate strategic objectives into actionable plans and initiatives, working closely with department heads to ensure alignment.
- Serve as a central point of contact for key organizational matters, facilitating communication and coordination across various departments
Support Executive Presentations
- Develop and create compelling and visually engaging executive-level presentations for the CUO.
- Curate content, key messages, and provide data to effectively communicate complex ideas and strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to gather information and insights for inclusion in presentations.
- Ensure presentations and key messages align with organizational messaging, branding, and strategic objectives.
Change and Underwriting Events Management
- Lead the planning and execution of Underwriting initiatives and events in liaison with the right stakeholders ensuring alignment with strategic goals
- Lead change management efforts, ensuring smooth implementation of new processes, tools, and practices
- Oversee the organization of key events, such as Strategy Sessions, Townhall Meetings, to enhance communication and engagement across the enterprise.
What will you need to succeed?
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Management, and/or related field
- 10+ years of progressive experience in roles requiring strategic thinking and leadership.
- Experience in successfully supporting C-Suite executives and leading cross-functional initiatives.
- Experience in project management, strategic planning, and executive support
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong leadership and influencing abilities.
- High level of emotional intelligence and adaptability
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Familiarity with Insurance industry initiatives and events
