Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Dean of the Feliciano School of Business, the Director of Technology Strategy & Innovation provides strategic leadership for the planning, advancement, and effective use of technology across the School. The Director develops and executes technology strategies that support excellence in teaching, learning, research, student success, administration, and external engagement while ensuring that technology capabilities evolve to meet the changing needs of students, faculty, and staff. The Director identifies and evaluates emerging technologies, promotes innovation, and advances technology-enabled solutions that strengthen the School's academic and operational effectiveness.

As a member of the Dean's senior leadership team, the Director serves as the School's principal advisor on technology strategy, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, data and analytics, and technology investments. The Director collaborates with University technology partners, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to advance technology initiatives aligned with the School's mission and strategic priorities while overseeing the delivery of technology support services within the School. The Director also represents the School in institutional technology initiatives and maintains active engagement with peer and aspirant business schools to identify and advance best practices in technology-enabled education and operations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive technology roadmap aligned with the School's strategic priorities, ensuring effective resource planning, measurable outcomes, and a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Serve as the School's senior advisor on technology strategy, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies, providing recommendations to the Dean and senior leadership regarding opportunities, risks, investments, and adoption strategies.

  • Partner with the Dean, senior leadership, faculty, and staff to integrate technology into academic, administrative, and strategic initiatives that advance teaching, learning, research, student success, and operational effectiveness.

  • Evaluate existing and emerging technologies through the use of business intelligence, data analytics, cost-benefit analysis, and risk assessment to inform technology planning and investment decisions.

  • Lead technology modernization and digital transformation initiatives across academic delivery, student services, and administrative operations, applying effective project and change management practices to support successful implementation and adoption.

  • Partner with faculty to advance the effective use of educational technologies, artificial intelligence, analytics, and other emerging technologies within curriculum design, instructional delivery, experiential learning, and student success initiatives.

  • Promote the effective use of data analytics, dashboards, and business intelligence tools to support decision-making, program assessment, operational effectiveness, and student outcome tracking.

  • Represent the School in University technology initiatives, committees, and working groups, advocating for School priorities while contributing to institution-wide technology planning and innovation efforts.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with peer and aspirant business schools, professional organizations, and industry partners to identify emerging trends, share best practices, and support technology-enabled learning opportunities.

  • Serve as the School's representative in the development and implementation of University policies and initiatives related to artificial intelligence, data governance, cybersecurity, and technology innovation.

  • Promote cybersecurity awareness and support the implementation of University information security, privacy, and compliance requirements within the School, working closely with central technology and security units.

  • Lead the direction and continuous improvement of School technology support services, including instructional design and educational technology, workstation support, virtual desktop environments, audiovisual services, and media production.

  • Oversee the daily operation of the SBUS Technology Support Services unit, including personnel management, budget administration, service delivery, assessment, and compliance with University policies and procedures.

  • Provide strategic recommendations regarding technology investments and collaborate with University technology and procurement units on the acquisition and implementation of hardware, software, and cloud-based services supporting School priorities.

  • Oversee the reliability, effectiveness, and continuous improvement of School-managed technology resources, including computer labs, virtual desktop environments, instructional technology systems, and end-user computing resources.

  • Monitor technology utilization, service performance, and operational metrics and provide periodic assessments and recommendations to the Dean regarding technology effectiveness, resource allocation, and future priorities.

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of technology professionals responsible for instructional technology, educational technology support, workstation services, audiovisual support, virtual desktop environments, and media production.

  • Maintain sufficient operational knowledge to ensure leadership continuity and effective service delivery during periods of organizational transition, staffing changes, or increased operational demand.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in information technology, information systems, computer science, analytics, business technology, or a related field.

  • Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in technology, digital transformation, information systems, analytics initiatives, or related functions within a complex organization.

  • Minimum of five years of experience leading professional staff, managing complex projects, and overseeing technology-related operations or initiatives.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of artificial intelligence, generative AI, and emerging technologies, with the ability to evaluate opportunities, risks, and translate complex technical concepts into practical recommendations for diverse stakeholders.

  • Experience using data analytics, business intelligence, reporting, or assessment tools to support strategic planning, decision-making, and organizational effectiveness.

  • Demonstrated success leading multiple concurrent projects and organizational change initiatives, including technology adoption efforts in complex environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders, faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders and to build collaborative relationships across organizational boundaries.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, matrixed environment and manage competing priorities.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance strategic objectives and operational needs.

 

PREFERRED:

  • Master's degree (MBA with a concentration in Information Systems, Analytics, Technology Management, or a related field; or a master's degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Analytics, Computer Science, or a related discipline) from an accredited institution.

  • Advanced professional certifications in project management, artificial intelligence, information technology leadership, cybersecurity, cloud technologies, analytics, or related fields.

  • Demonstrated experience leading AI strategy, AI governance, responsible AI adoption, or emerging technology initiatives within a complex organization.

  • Demonstrated success leading technology modernization, digital transformation, organizational change, or large-scale process improvement initiatives.

  • Experience supporting technology-enabled teaching and learning, educational technology, instructional innovation, or digital learning initiatives.

  • Experience developing or leveraging analytics, dashboards, business intelligence, or data-informed decision-making processes to support organizational strategy and performance.

  • Experience leading technology initiatives within higher education or similarly complex, mission-driven organizations operating in collaborative and shared-governance environments.

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks, data privacy requirements, and technology governance practices relevant to higher education environments.

  • Experience developing partnerships with corporations, technology providers, professional organizations, or other external stakeholders that support experiential learning, workforce development, innovation, or curriculum enhancement.

Salary Range

$165,000.00-$185,000.00 Annually
