Position Summary
The Director of Tax is GT’s senior tax authority and a key strategic partner within the Finance organization. This leader oversees tax strategy, compliance, and risk management across a complex, multi‑entity, multi‑state operational landscape. You will build and lead a modern tax function that ensures GT meets all federal, state, and local tax obligations while optimizing our tax position in alignment with organizational growth.
This role is particularly critical in GT’s environment, which includes Medicaid LTSS programs, employer‑of‑record responsibilities, direct‑hire caregiving models, and rapidly evolving state‑level regulatory requirements. The Director of Tax will collaborate closely with leaders across Finance, Payroll, FP&A, Legal, Operations, and Government Relations to ensure tax guidance is integrated into decision‑making and future planning.

Key Responsibilities:
Tax Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute GT’s comprehensive tax strategy across all jurisdictions and business entities.
- Provide strategic tax guidance for new programs, business models, organizational initiatives, and state expansions.
- Partner with executive leadership to evaluate tax implications of long‑term planning, pricing decisions, and contractual structures.
- Serve as the organization’s top tax advisor and subject matter expert on tax considerations unique to FMS and Medicaid LTSS.
Tax Compliance & Regulatory Management
- Oversee preparation, accuracy, and timely filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns, including income, payroll, employment, and other regulatory filings.
- Ensure compliance with IRS and state tax authorities, workforce agencies, and all relevant regulatory bodies.
- Lead and manage tax audits, examinations, and inquiries from federal and state agencies.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls governing all tax‑related processes and systems.
Tax Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Oversee tax accounting activities, including ASC 740, tax provisions, deferred taxes, and monthly/quarterly close support.
- Partner with the Corporate Accounting team to ensure accurate financial statement presentation of all tax‑related matters.
- Prepare and review tax disclosures and documentation supporting internal and external audits.
- Maintain strong documentation of tax positions, technical research, and regulatory interpretations.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Payroll to ensure accuracy of employment and payroll tax compliance across multiple states and program types.
- Partner with FP&A on tax forecasting, budgeting for tax expenses, and modeling of multi‑state tax impacts.
- Support Government Relations with tax interpretation related to state policies, regulatory changes, and program transitions.
- Provide ongoing tax education, guidance, and insights to leadership teams across GT.
Process, Systems & Technology Improvement
- Evaluate and enhance tax workflows, data structures, and reporting capabilities to support scalability.
- Identify and implement tax technology solutions to automate recurring processes and improve accuracy.
- Strengthen GT’s tax documentation, controls, and standard operating procedures across the organization.
- Build the tax function infrastructure required for GT’s growth into new states, programs, and service models.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or related field.
- 7+ years of progressive tax experience, including multi‑state compliance and tax leadership.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations, including payroll and employment tax.
- Expertise in tax accounting and ASC 740.
- Experience operating in complex regulatory environments or multi‑entity organizations.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex tax concepts to non‑tax partners.
Preferred:
- CPA, MST, or equivalent advanced credential.
- Experience in Medicaid LTSS, FMS, healthcare services, or other government‑funded or regulated industries.
- Background in employer‑of‑record tax requirements or payroll tax leadership.
- Experience with ERP, payroll platforms, and tax compliance software.
