The Director of Tax will collaborate closely with leaders across Finance, Payroll, FP&A, Legal, Operations, and Government Relations to ensure tax guidance is integrated into decision‑making and future planning.

This is an ideal opportunity for a strategic, hands‑on tax leader who thrives in complexity, is energized by mission‑driven work, and excels at building scalable processes in a high‑growth environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Tax Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute GT’s comprehensive tax strategy across all jurisdictions and business entities.
  • Provide strategic tax guidance for new programs, business models, organizational initiatives, and state expansions.
  • Partner with executive leadership to evaluate tax implications of long‑term planning, pricing decisions, and contractual structures.
  • Serve as the organization’s top tax advisor and subject matter expert on tax considerations unique to FMS and Medicaid LTSS.

Tax Compliance & Regulatory Management

  • Oversee preparation, accuracy, and timely filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns, including income, payroll, employment, and other regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with IRS and state tax authorities, workforce agencies, and all relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Lead and manage tax audits, examinations, and inquiries from federal and state agencies.
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls governing all tax‑related processes and systems.

Tax Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Oversee tax accounting activities, including ASC 740, tax provisions, deferred taxes, and monthly/quarterly close support.
  • Partner with the Corporate Accounting team to ensure accurate financial statement presentation of all tax‑related matters.
  • Prepare and review tax disclosures and documentation supporting internal and external audits.
  • Maintain strong documentation of tax positions, technical research, and regulatory interpretations.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Payroll to ensure accuracy of employment and payroll tax compliance across multiple states and program types.
  • Partner with FP&A on tax forecasting, budgeting for tax expenses, and modeling of multi‑state tax impacts.
  • Support Government Relations with tax interpretation related to state policies, regulatory changes, and program transitions.
  • Provide ongoing tax education, guidance, and insights to leadership teams across GT.

Process, Systems & Technology Improvement

  • Evaluate and enhance tax workflows, data structures, and reporting capabilities to support scalability.
  • Identify and implement tax technology solutions to automate recurring processes and improve accuracy.
  • Strengthen GT’s tax documentation, controls, and standard operating procedures across the organization.
  • Build the tax function infrastructure required for GT’s growth into new states, programs, and service models.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive tax experience, including multi‑state compliance and tax leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations, including payroll and employment tax.
  • Expertise in tax accounting and ASC 740.
  • Experience operating in complex regulatory environments or multi‑entity organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex tax concepts to non‑tax partners.

Preferred:

  • CPA, MST, or equivalent advanced credential.
  • Experience in Medicaid LTSS, FMS, healthcare services, or other government‑funded or regulated industries.
