As a growing organization, we are seeking a strategic, results-driven Director of Supply Chain to lead our end-to-end supply chain function, including procurement, inventory, and warehouse operations, ensuring the active pharmaceutical ingredients, excipients, and materials that power our compounding operations are sourced, qualified, planned, and delivered reliably, compliantly, and cost-effectively as we scale.

Position Summary

The Director of Supply Chain is responsible for setting the strategy for and leading all supply chain activities at Southend Pharmacy, including procurement and strategic sourcing, inventory management, warehouse operations (including receiving), vendor qualification and supplier quality, demand and supply planning, and supply chain analytics. This role builds and develops the supply chain team, owns the supply chain budget and key performance indicators, and ensures business continuity through proactive risk management and shortage mitigation. The Director of Supply Chain partners closely with executive leadership, pharmacy operations, quality assurance, compliance, R&D, and finance to support uninterrupted, compliant production of sterile and nonsterile compounded preparations and the company's growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Develop and execute a multi-year supply chain strategy aligned with Southend Pharmacy's growth, quality, and financial objectives.
    • Serve as the senior supply chain leader and advisor to executive leadership on sourcing, inventory, cost, and risk.
    • Establish supply chain KPIs (fill rate, on-time delivery, forecast accuracy, inventory turns, cost savings, stockouts, and expirations) and report performance to leadership.
    • Own the supply chain operating budget and materials spend, identifying and delivering cost-reduction opportunities without compromising quality or compliance.
    • Lead supply chain planning for new product launches, new formulations, capacity expansion, and new sites or service lines.
  • Procurement & Strategic Sourcing
    • Oversee all procurement activities, including purchase requisitions, purchase order issuance and approvals, order tracking, expediting, and invoice reconciliation in partnership with finance.
    • Oversee sourcing of APIs, excipients, and other compounding components from FDA-registered facilities that meet applicable USP–NF monograph and Section 503A bulk drug substance requirements.
    • Define category strategies for critical materials, including dual- and multi-sourcing to reduce single-source risk and mitigate drug and ingredient shortages.
    • Lead negotiation of master supply agreements, quality agreements, pricing, and payment terms with strategic vendors.
    • Ensure compliant procurement of DEA-controlled APIs in partnership with the Pharmacist-in-Charge and controlled substance team, including CSOS/DEA Form 222 requirements.
    • Establish purchasing policies, approval controls, and procurement best practices.
  • Vendor Qualification, Quality & Compliance
    • Own the vendor qualification and requalification program and the Approved Vendor List (AVL), ensuring all files are maintained in an audit-ready state.
    • Partner with Quality Assurance on supplier audits, supplier corrective actions (SCARs), and investigations of material deviations or out-of-specification results.
    • Monitor FDA warning letters, import alerts, recalls, and regulatory changes, and lead the response to any that affect approved vendors or materials.
    • Ensure all supply chain activities comply with USP <795>, <797>, <800>, FDA, DEA, DSCSA, and state board of pharmacy regulations and internal SOPs.
    • Represent the supply chain function during regulatory inspections, board of pharmacy inspections, and internal or third-party audits.
  • Supplier Relationship Management
    • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with strategic API and excipient manufacturers, distributors, and logistics partners.
    • Oversee the vendor performance management program, including scorecards and quarterly business reviews.
    • Serve as the final escalation point for critical supply, quality, and delivery issues.
  • Inventory & Warehouse Operations
    • Oversee all warehouse activities, including receiving, inspection, put-away, storage, picking, and internal distribution of materials and supplies.
    • Ensure receiving processes verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, Certificates of Analysis (COAs), and quality requirements, and that materials are properly quarantined and released in partnership with Quality Assurance.
    • Ensure materials are stored under required conditions (temperature, humidity, segregation of hazardous drugs, and secure storage for DEA-controlled substances), with appropriate monitoring and documentation.
    • Own inventory accuracy and control, including cycle counts, physical inventories, lot and expiration tracking, FEFO rotation, and reconciliation of discrepancies.
    • Set inventory policy, including reorder points, safety stock, and par levels, to balance availability, shelf life, and working capital.
    • Maintain a safe, organized, and audit-ready warehouse, and oversee warehouse layout, equipment, and staffing to support growth.
  • Planning & Analytics
    • Oversee demand forecasting and supply planning for APIs, excipients, and components using prescription volume, formulation data, seasonality, and growth initiatives.
    • Direct the development of dashboards and reports on inventory health, forecast accuracy, spend, lead times, and vendor performance.
    • Lead business continuity and risk management planning for critical materials, including shortage response plans.
  • Team Leadership & Continuous Improvement
    • Hire, lead, mentor, and develop the supply chain team, including procurement, inventory, and warehouse/receiving staff, setting clear goals and conducting performance reviews.
