Job Overview: The Strategic Solutions Lead will direct the process leadership for our high-impact strategic proposal development team. This role involves creating competitive, winning strategies in response to customer requests for proposals (RFPs) and leveraging in-depth knowledge of CRG’s and Thermo Fisher’s full suite of clinical trial offerings. The Strategic Solutions Lead will oversee and be accountable for the overall proposal development process across business segments (EDS, PhII & III, NIS, FSP), ensuring the final deliverables with the highest quality are handed off to commercial teams efficiently and effectively.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Proposal Strategy Development:
Develop, direct, and execute winning proposal strategies and key selling messages to ensure responses and solutions are fully integrated and client ready.
Customize proposals specifically to address the specific needs and challenges of the clients.
2. Cross-functional Engagement:
Engage cross-functionally with key stakeholders including all core team members to ensure the operational strategy and budget are fully aligned with customer needs and the overall win strategy.
Collaborate with internal medical and scientific experts to incorporate clinical insights and value propositions into proposals.
3. Solution Optimization:
Translate Thermo Fisher’s full suite of clinical trial offerings into optimized, compelling solutions that meet customer needs.
Utilize understanding of clinical, regulatory requirements, therapeutic areas, and patient populations to enhance proposal effectiveness.
4. Team Leadership:
Direct a high-impact, cross-functional team in the development and delivery of high-quality proposal deliverables within prescribed timelines.
Make final decisions on proposal submissions (Greenlight) to clients, ensuring all components meet internal standards and client expectations.
5. Profitability Management:
Manage proposal deliverables to meet company profitability targets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and resource allocation align with business goals.
6. Competitive Intelligence:
Maintain a constant dialogue with the commercial team to obtain client intelligence and competitor analysis to develop winning strategies.
Identify emerging trends, competitor activities, and market dynamics in the clinical trial landscape to inform proposal development and positioning.
7. Stakeholder Feedback Integration:
Ensure appropriate executive and stakeholder feedback is integrated during the proposal process.
Collaborate with business development, commercial, marketing and operational teams to incorporate client feedback and lessons learned from previous proposals into future strategies.
8. Regulatory Compliance:
Stay updated on regulatory guidelines and requirements governing clinical trial conduct and proposal development.
Ensure proposals adhere to regulatory standards and ethical considerations, mitigating potential risks and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Job Complexity:
This role requires developing solutions to highly complex issues that impact and address future concepts, products, or technologies in the realm of clinical trials. It involves navigating regulatory complexities, scientific challenges, and competitive landscapes to create winning strategies for proposal development.
Business Relationships:
Serves as a consultant and spokesperson for the functional area or as an external spokesperson for the organization on highly significant matters related to clinical trials.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Business Administration). Advanced degree preferred.
Extensive experience (7+ years) in proposal development, clinical trial management, or a similar role in a CRO or pharmaceutical environment.
In some cases an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Project leadership skills in a matrixed environment.
Demonstrated in-depth expertise in commercial and budgeting strategy, the proposal development process, and the overall business organization and functional areas.
Expertise in clinical trial operations, regulatory requirements, and strategic planning.
In-depth knowledge of integrated end-to-end solutions for clinical trials.
Sophisticated customer relationship management skills and commercial acumen.
Ability to work in a high pressure/time-sensitive environment including the ability to handle multiple issues on multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent analytical, negotiation, and oral and written communication skills.
Proven ability to build peer relationships, to lead project teams and to drive results, with a strong global and cultural awareness.
Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Business Administration or equivalent
- 7+ years of experience in proposal development or clinical trial management
- Advanced degree preferred
