Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Strategic Planning Director 1 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Multi-Domain Command and Control (MDC2) Business Unit (BU) organization. This leadership role is located in Melbourne, FL. 

This position plays a critical role in driving long-term growth and investment priorities in both domestic and international markets within the BU.  The selected candidate will be responsible for driving capture progression across the overall pipeline, prioritizing critical technologies and investments, and transitioning new platforms into viable product lines. The individual will work closely with the MDC2 Vice President and Programs Managers, the Sector Strategy and Growth organization including business development and capture leads as well as the Sector’s Research and Advanced Design group.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • BU lead for strategy, capture, and investments, serving as the Subject Matter Expert on the Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) process, Department of War (DOW) and Department of Navy requirements generation and procurement processes, and Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) and Naval International Program Office (NIPO) acquisition processes

  • Serve as the primary interface with Legislative Affairs, Government Relations to develop and implement BU capture and investment strategy, combining external market and customer analysis with internal pipeline and technology roadmaps, to maintain a consistent long-range strategic plan 

  • Lead a team of program and capture managers executing capture and campaign plans, with a focus on influencing stakeholder outcomes through competitive analysis and price-to-win, business case and offer strategy, and the establishment of offset opportunities as applicable 

  • Prioritization and management of BU CAPEX and NCTA investments supporting long-range strategic planning and execution, advocating with Division and Sector for shortfalls, as needed

  • Understand the customer marketplace, stakeholder customer organizations, and budgets to identify market drivers, trends, and develop strategies

  • Partner with Sector and Division Strategy and Growth team for customer influence, pipeline evaluation, and strategic gap analysis aligned with Sector/Division initiatives

  • Lead strategic endeavors with thought leadership emphasis in the development and execution of franchise and individual capture strategies across all MDC2 integrated product teams (IPTs)

  • Develop clear and concise Win Themes and Value Propositions for the capture and ensure regular health assessments and gate reviews while following the process standards of the Northrop Grumman Business Acquisition Process (BAP)

  • Coordinate the activities of business management, strategy, contracts, global supply chain, technology and engineering offices to execute the BU’s long-range strategic roadmap

Basic Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of professional/military experience related to military operations, DOW requirements generation and procurement processes, and/or government acquisition processes; OR a Master’s degree and 8 years of the aforementioned experience

  • Minimum 3 years in a business development, program, or project leadership role

  • Active U.S Government Secret Clearance  

  • Ability to obtain and maintain special program access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the needs of the business 

  • Experience supporting U.S. Government contracts and customers 

  • Demonstrated people leadership skills and the ability to lead effectively in a diverse team environment

  • Proven ability to provide independent critical assessments that ultimately result in better outcomes for the enterprise

  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary business development, strategy development activities

  • Experience building strong customer relationships 

 Preferred Qualifications 

  • Active U.S Government Top Secret Clearance 

  • Technical and/or Leadership/Management-focused master’s degree 

  • 15 years of industry experience in capture leadership, business development, and/or program management 

  • Direct capture experience within the Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems 

  • Direct capture experience with US Navy and/or International acquisitions 

  • Experience w/ Agile for Business tools such as Jira (Kanban) and Confluence 

Primary Level Salary Range: $176,100.00 - $264,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
