The Wall Street Journal is looking for a bold and innovative journalist to lead strategic initiatives in service of our audience-first vision.
This is an opportunity to formulate, incubate and operationalize new ideas for our global newsroom, in close collaboration with colleagues across the business. This role sits within the digital team, which drives news strategy for everything from AI to visual storytelling.
You should be familiar with the changing media landscape and ready to identify where the Journal should adapt, compete and win. You’ll be expected to recommend big bets that push the Journal forward while embracing the brand. Your remit is anything that touches our journalism, with the overarching goals of engaging and growing our audiences.
You will:
Develop key strategic projects
Propose new areas of opportunity and growth for the newsroom
Collaborate with leadership on decision-making to prioritize initiatives and resource allocation
Leverage audience data and project business impact to support your decisionmaking
Work with news teams, marketing and other business partners to evaluate, shape and execute new initiatives
Partner closely with colleagues in coverage, strategy, data and more
Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration across the newsroom and wider business
You have:
10 - 12 years of experience in the media industry, preferably a large newsroom
An enterprising mindset, with original ideas and the ability to translate them into actionable plans for all levels of the organization
Successfully led strategy, innovation or digital transformation in a previous role
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to pitch big swings to stakeholders both within the newsroom and across the wider business
Experience recruiting and retaining top talent
The position will be based in New York and will report to the Head of Digital.
