Director / Sr. Director, Marketplace Operations

About Science Exchange

Science Exchange is the leading supplier orchestration platform for life sciences, connecting 100+ pharmaceutical and biotech companies with 3,500+ CROs and CDMOs through a two-sided marketplace. Our “one contract” model simplifies how research organizations procure and manage outsourced R&D services, facilitating the full order-to-cash lifecycle across a global network of research service providers.

About the role

Science Exchange is hiring a Director / Sr. Director to lead Marketplace Operations—the function responsible for compliant onboarding and high-quality billing operations that scale.

This role sits within Operations and reports to the SVP of operations.

Responsibilities
1) Marketplace onboarding
  • Own onboarding from intake through order-ready activation, including SLAs, case management, and evidence capture.
  • Drive consistent onboarding standards across customer types
  • Maintain strong vendor/customer master data quality in Salesforce and ensure alignment and orchestration between Science Exchange's platform, financial data and the customer's procurement and ERP systems
  • Operationalize risk-based onboarding requirements (e.g., KYB/KYC documentation and sanctions screening where required) with clear exception routing and traceability, in partnership with Legal/Compliance and Finance.
2) Billing operations
  • Own operational workflows that produce accurate and matching transactions in ERP (Sage Intacct), the Science Exchange platform and customer records
  • Improve PO/invoice ingestion quality and scalability with systematic QA gates.
  • Partner with corporate treasury on scalable cash application operations and drive process/tooling improvements to reduce manual effort and key-person risk.
  • Partner with customer facing teams and corporate treasury to manage customer specific and general requirements for exceptions handling (adjustments/credits) while maintaining scalable, compliant SOC1 processes
  • Partner with Finance on SOC1/SOC2 and financial statement audit readiness
3) Operational controls, risk management, and audit readiness
  • Design and run controls that reduce error and fraud risk (approvals, segregation of duties, sensitive-change controls).
  • Own high-risk change workflows (e.g., bank detail/entity changes) with verification steps and evidence capture.
  • Maintain audit-ready SOPs, logs, and documentation; support periodic Finance control reviews/audits.
  • Drive recurring defect reduction through root cause analysis and remediation.
4) Scale through systems and automation
  • Partner with Product/Engineering to improve workflows, routing, data models, and automation across onboarding and billing ops.
  • Identify and prioritize tooling needs (invoice ingestion, cash application automation, secure handling of sensitive payment-related data, portal management).
  • Define operational requirements for integrations and new launches (UAT, cutover plans, runbooks).
  • Build dashboards/visibility across SFDC and Intacct for backlog health, exceptions, and control monitoring.

Qualifications
  • 8-10+ years in marketplace operations, onboarding operations, billing/payments ops, finance ops, or similar scaled operations roles.
  • Experience running workflows across Salesforce + ERP with strong data governance.
  • Proven ability to operate in a controls-driven environment (SOPs, approvals, evidence capture, exception handling, audit/oversight).
  • Practical experience embedding KYC / AML-adjacent workflows into onboarding operations (risk-tiering, screening where required, exception routing).
  • Strong cross-functional leadership with Finance, Legal/Compliance, and Product/Engineering.

What We Do

Science Exchange is the first purchasing and supplier orchestration platform for life sciences companies. We’re on a mission to streamline and modernize the way R&D organizations and suppliers work together. Our platform harmonizes purchasing, supplier management, and payment processing through one platform and digital marketplace. Whether using our network of 3,800 suppliers with established contracts or syncing existing ones, a simple intake process enables scientists to purchase the services and products they need while workflows and integrations guide them through approvals and compliance requirements. Science Exchange ensures supplier data integrates into ELNs and the secure transfer of large files to enhance supplier collaboration. The platform also employs an automated payment system to validate all invoices and provide prompt supplier payment. The world’s top life sciences companies, including BMS, AbbVie, Gilead, and Astellas, rely on Science Exchange to help accelerate their research, automate manual processes, and advance their programs faster.
