How will you make an impact?

As Director of Software Product Management, you will define and execute the software strategy powering future qPCR workflows. You will own the qPCR software portfolio, multi-year roadmap, and digital customer experience across instruments, consumables, software, services, and AI-enabled workflows.

You will advance connected laboratory experiences, autonomous instrumentation, workflow automation, and integrated digital tools that improve customer productivity, demonstrate digital program value, unlock new applications, and strengthen Thermo Fisher Scientific's competitive advantage across research, translational, applied, and clinical markets.


What will you do?

This position is within the Genetic Sciences Division (GSD), part of the Life Sciences Solutions Group. Genetic Sciences enables genomic discoveries and decisions through innovative technologies, workflows, and services supporting cancer research, molecular diagnostics, reproductive health, human identification, animal health, and agricultural genomics.


Software Strategy & Portfolio Leadership

·        Own the software product portfolio and multi-year roadmap supporting the qPCR business.

·        Partner with business leaders to define software strategies for AI-enabled workflows, advanced applications, automation, autonomous systems, and connected laboratory solutions.

·        Translate customer needs, market opportunities, and business strategies into executable roadmaps.

·        Evaluate emerging software technologies, AI capabilities, and digital business models for innovation and differentiation.

·        Drive portfolio prioritization, investment decisions, value attribution, and monetization strategies across products and platforms.

·        Define success metrics including adoption, productivity impact, engagement, revenue contribution, consumables pull-through, and strategic value.


AI & Digital Innovation

·        Lead software strategies for workflow optimization, AI-powered assay design, data interpretation, and laboratory productivity solutions.

·        Partner with data science, software engineering, informatics, and business teams to commercialize innovative AI capabilities.

·        Define data strategy needs for AI-enabled products, including interoperability, governance, quality, and scalable use of workflow and instrument data.

·        Partner with architecture and engineering leaders on platform strategies that support scalable AI integration across the qPCR portfolio.

·        Ensure AI capabilities are grounded in customer workflows, clear value propositions, and responsible product development practices.

·        Evaluate partnerships and ecosystem opportunities that accelerate software innovation.


Applications & Workflow Enablement

·        Collaborate with cross-business product managers on software solutions for emerging applications such as methylation analysis, proteomics-enabling workflows, and future multiomics opportunities.

·        Drive Lab-in-a-Loop requirements connecting consumables, instruments, autonomous systems, automation, software, data, and AI-driven decision support.

·        Ensure software solutions are designed around customer workflows and deliver measurable productivity improvements.

·        Support customer discovery, voice-of-customer research, workflow mapping, and KOL engagement to identify validated product priorities.


Product Development & Execution

·        Lead software product management across the lifecycle from concept through commercialization and sustaining.

·        Partner with software engineering, UX, quality, regulatory, and program management teams to execute software development programs.

·        Support agile development and align business priorities with engineering execution.

·        Drive release planning, roadmap communication, and portfolio performance management.


People Leadership

·        Lead and develop a high-performing software product management organization.

·        Recruit, mentor, and develop talent to support growth and evolving business needs.

·        Foster customer-centric innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

·        Establish product management best practices, operating rhythms, and development processes across the portfolio.


Cross-Functional Leadership

·        Influence and align stakeholders across business units, software engineering, R&D, commercial teams, operations, quality, regulatory, and executive leadership.

·        Support customer engagements, strategic partnerships, KOL interactions, and executive reviews.

·        Lead software strategy and portfolio priorities within business planning and product development governance.


Travel:

Domestic and international travel, up to 25%


How will you get here?Education

·        Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, Life Sciences, Engineering, or related discipline.

·        Advanced degree (MBA, M.S., Ph.D., or equivalent) preferred.

Experience

·        10+ years of experience in software product management, software leadership, or digital product strategy.

·        5+ years of people leadership managing product management, software, or related technical teams.

·        Proven track record developing and commercializing software products in life sciences, diagnostics, biotechnology, healthcare technology, or adjacent industries.

·        Experience leading complex software portfolios and multi-year roadmap strategies.

·        Experience working in matrixed global organizations and influencing across functions.

·        Experience with AI/ML-enabled products, data strategy, or digital workflow solutions preferred.

·        Knowledge of genomics, molecular biology, qPCR, diagnostics, or laboratory workflows is highly desirable.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

·        Strong understanding of software product management, agile development, and software lifecycle management.

·        Ability to translate business strategy into product roadmaps and engineering execution plans.

·        Knowledge of AI/ML technologies and their application to scientific workflows and laboratory productivity.

·        Understanding of data interoperability, governance, cybersecurity, and cloud technologies in software-enabled workflows.

·        Strong business acumen in portfolio management, commercialization, value attribution, monetization, and investment prioritization.

·        Exceptional communication and influencing skills with technical teams, customers, and executive stakeholders.

·        Proven ability to lead through influence in complex cross-functional environments.

·        Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with a customer-first mindset.

·        Experience with regulated software environments and quality systems is a plus.

·        Passion for innovation and enabling scientific discovery through software and digital technologies.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $192,100.00–$256,100.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
