OVERVIEW
We're seeking an experienced Director of Software Engineering to lead and scale our engineering organization during a period of rapid growth. As a key member of our leadership team, you'll help shape the technical strategy while building and mentoring high-performing engineering teams that manage our cloud-native platform serving over 1 million connected devices.
The right candidate will drive technical excellence while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. They'll be responsible for leading multiple engineering teams, defining technical strategy, and ensuring successful delivery of our SaaS products at scale.
TECH STACK
* Cloud-native architecture built on AWS services
* Microservices architecture handling millions of concurrent device connections
* Event-driven system utilizing Apache Kafka for real-time data processing
* Backend services written in Go and Java
* Frontend applications built with TypeScript and Vue.js
* Large-scale device management via custom software agent
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
* Provide technical and organizational leadership to multiple engineering teams, including managers and individual contributors
* Drive architectural decisions and technology choices that enable rapid, sustainable growth
* Scale our microservices architecture to handle increasing device loads and data processing requirements
* Develop and implement engineering processes, best practices, and quality standards
* Lead recruitment, retention, and professional development initiatives for the engineering organization
* Manage resource allocation, capacity planning, and engineering operations
* Collaborate with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to drive product development and innovation
* Guide teams through organizational changes while maintaining productivity and morale
* Define and track key engineering metrics
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
* 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 7+ years in engineering management roles
* Proven track record of leading and scaling engineering teams in fast-growing technology companies
* Experience with cloud-native architectures and AWS services
* Demonstrated success scaling microservices architectures handling high-volume data processing
* Experience with at least two of our core technologies: Go, Java, TypeScript, or Eventing systems like Kafka
* Background in building and maintaining large-scale distributed systems
* Excellence in recruiting, developing, and retaining engineering talent
* Track record of successful delivery of complex SaaS products
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to influence across all levels
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
NICE TO HAVES
* Experience with IoT platforms or device management systems
* Expertise in event-driven architectures and message queuing systems
* Background in real-time data processing and analytics
* History of implementing successful engineering processes and methodologies
* Experience managing distributed/remote engineering teams
LOCATION
We are a fully distributed company with remote employees in concentrated areas across the United States working from their home office.

The salary range listed is the base pay range for this position. In addition, the total compensation package includes bonus, equity and benefits. Actual earnings may be less or more depending on a candidate's direct experience, skills, industry knowledge, and location.
