What you'll do...

About Team:

This area owns the technology portfolio that connects demand intelligence, inventory positioning, and product flow across Walmart International. Through SMART Forecasting, GeoDemand, Placements, IO2, and O3, the organization enables the capabilities that determine what customers are likely to need, where inventory should be positioned, and how product should flow efficiently through the supply chain.

The team’s purpose is to build an intelligent, scalable, and connected replenishment ecosystem that turns demand signals into better inventory and flow decisions. By bringing together software engineering, data, machine learning, forecasting, and optimization, the team seeks to improve product availability and inventory productivity while reducing variability and creating greater efficiency across suppliers, distribution centers, stores, clubs, and fulfillment networks.

What you'll do:

  • Lead the engineering strategy and execution for the IO2, O3, GeoDemand, Placements, and SMART Forecasting portfolio, connecting demand intelligence, inventory positioning, and product flow.
  • Define and drive the technical vision, architecture, and modernization strategy for highly scalable, business-critical platforms.
  • Build a more integrated replenishment ecosystem, ensuring forecasting, geographic demand, placement, and flow capabilities work together to deliver end-to-end outcomes.
  • Partner closely with Product, Data Science, Supply Chain Operations, Architecture, and market teams to translate business priorities into scalable technology solutions.
  • Lead the engineering of data-, machine learning-, forecasting-, and optimization-driven capabilities that improve how inventory decisions are made.
  • Drive engineering excellence and operational health, including reliability, scalability, observability, security, automation, performance, and production readiness.
  • Establish strong technical standards and architecture guardrails while enabling teams to move quickly and make effective engineering decisions.
  • Manage complex cross-platform and cross-organizational dependencies, proactively removing barriers and aligning teams around shared outcomes.
  • Lead technology modernization and simplification, reducing technical debt and creating platforms that can be more easily adopted and scaled across international markets.
  • Own execution against the portfolio roadmap, improving delivery predictability, quality, and accountability across teams.
  • Lead through engineering managers and senior technical leaders, creating clear accountability while empowering teams to own solutions and outcomes.
  • Recruit, develop, coach, and retain strong engineering talent, while building a healthy leadership pipeline and opportunities for technical career growth.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, experimentation, and responsible adoption of AI and emerging technologies.
  • Communicate technology strategy, investment needs, risks, trade-offs, and outcomes clearly to senior business and technology leaders.
  • Maintain a strong connection between technology investments and measurable outcomes such as product availability, inventory productivity, flow stability, and supply-chain efficiency.

What you'll bring:

  • Large-scale software & distributed systems – Strong technical background designing and operating highly scalable, resilient, cloud-based platforms and distributed systems.
  • Data-intensive platforms – Deep understanding of large-scale data processing, streaming/batch architectures, data quality, and the engineering patterns required to turn large datasets into operational decisions.
  • AI/ML-enabled systems – Experience engineering production platforms that operationalize machine learning, forecasting, and optimization models, including the partnership model between Software Engineering and Data Science.
  • Modern architecture & platform engineering – Ability to establish architecture strategy, APIs/contracts, platform standards, observability, reliability, scalability, security, and engineering guardrails across interconnected systems.
  • Technical strategy & modernization – Proven ability to modernize complex technology ecosystems while continuing to operate business-critical capabilities and progressively reducing legacy dependencies.
  • End-to-end systems thinking – Ability to understand and architect across multiple interconnected products rather than optimizing individual systems in isolation.
  • Engineering excellence & operational health – Strong command of SRE/DevOps practices, availability, performance, automated testing, CI/CD, telemetry, incident management, capacity planning, and production readiness.
  • Retail supply-chain domain expertise – Knowledge of replenishment, demand forecasting, inventory planning, allocation/placement, distribution-center operations, transportation, and store fulfillment.
  • Forecasting & optimization experience – Familiarity with time-series forecasting, demand sensing, optimization algorithms, simulation, and operations research.
  • Enterprise platform integration – Experience managing large dependency landscapes across data, infrastructure, security, product, and other platform teams.
  • AI-enabled engineering – Experience applying generative AI/LLMs to engineering productivity, decision support, or supply-chain use cases.
