The Securities Lending technology organisation within J.P. Morgan's Commercial & Investment Bank builds and operates the Enterprise Finance Platform (EFP) — the firm's strategic, end-to-end system of record for securities lending and equity finance globally. EFP processes billions of dollars of transactions daily across equities, fixed income, and repo products, serving institutional clients and internal trading desks across APAC, EMEA, and NA. The platform spans the full securities lending lifecycle: pre-trade locate and availability, rate management, trading, trade entry and lifecycle management, post-trade settlement, and reconciliation. The APAC engineering hub in Hong Kong is the primary technology presence covering Asian market hours and is a critical node in the firm's global follow-the-sun engineering model.
As a Director of Software Engineering at JPMorganChase within the Securities Lending technology, you lead a technical area and drive impact within teams, technologies, and projects across departments. Utilize your in-depth knowledge of software, applications, technical processes, and product management to drive multiple complex projects and initiatives, while serving as a primary decision maker for your teams and be a driver of innovation and solution delivery.
Job responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and retain a team of engineers and technical programme managers in Hong Kong, covering the Pre-Trade and GRIPS platform domains
- Own the APAC engineering delivery roadmap, balancing business demand, regulatory requirements, and technical modernisation priorities
- Serve as the senior technical stakeholder for the APAC trading desk and business partners, providing engineering insight and risk assessment for platform changes affecting Asian market hours
- Drive technical excellence across the team — code quality, test discipline, reliability, and continuous improvement of engineering practices
- Represent APAC engineering in cross-domain programme forums including EU T+1, the Morfin Pre-Trade modernisation programme, and quarterly planning cycles
- Partner with product and business to translate strategic priorities into engineering deliverables, and with peer EDs globally to ensure consistent platform governance
- Build the APAC engineering capability over the medium term, including headcount planning, graduate hiring (SEP), and succession development
- Champion AI-assisted engineering adoption — the organisation has one of the highest AI tool usage rates in the firm and expects engineering leaders to model and accelerate that adoption
- Proven engineering leadership at Director / Executive Director level, with experience managing teams of 10+ engineers in a financial services or similarly complex, regulated environment
- Deep technical background in Java-based distributed systems, event-driven architecture (Kafka/MSK), and cloud-native deployment (AWS, Kubernetes)
- Experience leading engineering in a trading, capital markets, or financial technology environment — familiarity with securities lending, equity finance, or prime brokerage is a strong advantage
- Track record of developing senior engineering talent through promotion and recognition pipelines
- Ability to operate in a globally matrixed organisation, influencing without direct authority across EMEA and NA engineering counterparts
- Clear communicator — able to articulate technical risk and delivery status to both engineering peers and non-technical business stakeholders
- Experience with modern engineering excellence practices: CI/CD, SonarQube quality gates, PR review discipline, and engineering scorecards
- Genuine interest in AI tooling and its application to developer productivity — the team uses Copilot and Claude Code extensively and leadership is expected to set the standard
