The Director, Content Delivery Platforms is responsible for leading engineering delivery, architecture strategy, and technical operations for CFA Institute’s content delivery ecosystem. This includes the design, development, integration, and ongoing optimization of a scalable, platform-agnostic content delivery platform that enables seamless syndication of CFA Institute content across Learning Management Systems (LMSs), enterprise partners, and third-party ecosystems.

The Director leads full-time and vendor engineering teams and is accountable for ensuring secure, reliable, API-first, multi-tenant platform capabilities that support B2B content distribution, licensing models, learning interoperability standards, and enterprise integrations. The role bridges product vision and engineering execution by translating complex business and commercial requirements into scalable technical solutions. They analyze current (“as-is”) and future-state (“to-be”) platform architectures; ensures alignment with enterprise architecture standards; supports new digital business models; manages engineering risks; oversees delivery execution; develops digital talent; and ensures production stability, observability, and service reliability.

This position reports to the Head, Application Development and may be based in eligible jurisdictions within the United States.

What you will do:

Platform Strategy & Architecture Leadership

  • Lead the architecture, development, enhancement, integration, and maintenance of CFA Institute’s content delivery platforms and services.
  • Design and govern a headless, API-first, platform-agnostic content ecosystem that decouples content from presentation and enables multi-environment deployment.
  • Architect scalable, secure, multi-tenant solutions capable of high-volume B2B content distribution.
  • Ensure platform alignment with enterprise architecture standards, integration principles, and security frameworks.
  • Conduct analysis of current (“as-is”) and future-state (“to-be”) systems to identify architectural improvements, modernization opportunities, and risk mitigation strategies.

LMS Interoperability & Integration

  • Direct technical strategy for integrations with major LMS platforms (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, D2L, Moodle) leveraging LTI 1.3 / LTI Advantage and related interoperability standards.
  • Ensure support for learning and content standards such as xAPI, SCORM, Caliper, and related telemetry frameworks.
  • Oversee API design, identity management (SSO, OAuth2, SAML), entitlement models, and secure content access controls.
  • Ensure seamless integration with internal systems including CRM, CMS, e-commerce, and analytics platforms.

Engineering Delivery & Operational Excellence

  • Lead engineering teams to deliver high-quality, secure, well-documented, and testable solutions within a product-aligned delivery framework.
  • Establish and enforce development standards, secure coding practices, CI/CD pipelines, documentation expectations, and quality assurance protocols.
  • Manage digital programs and platform initiatives, ensuring predictable delivery, risk transparency, and alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Ensure platforms are production-ready, stable, observable, monitored, and supported according to defined SLAs and reliability targets.
  • Oversee vendor relationships supporting content platforms, integrations, and associated services.

B2B Enablement & Commercial Support

  • Architect solutions that support flexible B2B monetization models, including tiered access, licensing, white-label solutions, subscriptions, and enterprise entitlements.
  • Serve as the senior technical subject matter expert supporting complex partner integrations and commercial discussions.
  • Translate business and partnership requirements into technical roadmaps, solution options, and implementation plans.

Data, Analytics & Innovation

  • Ensure platform telemetry enables meaningful learning analytics and partner reporting.
  • Partner with Data & Analytics teams to support insights-driven enhancements and measurement frameworks.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI-enabled content tagging, personalization, and dynamic assembly, to improve scalability and user experience.

Talent & Organizational Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams, including both FTE and vendor resources.
  • Drive capability development in platform engineering, interoperability standards, and modern architecture patterns.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate across Product, Education, Partnerships, Security, and Enterprise Architecture to ensure shared understanding of technical direction and priorities.


 

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.

  • 8–12+ years of progressive software engineering and platform experience, including enterprise-scale architecture and distributed systems.

  • 3+ years of managerial experience with responsibility for people leadership, platform delivery, and operational outcomes.

  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering multi-tenant SaaS or API-first platforms serving enterprise or B2B clients.

  • Deep familiarity with LMS ecosystems and interoperability standards (e.g., LTI Advantage, xAPI, SCORM).

  • Experience with headless CMS architectures, microservices, API gateways, RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs.

  • Experience integrating enterprise systems such as CRM, CMS, identity providers, and analytics platforms.

  • Strong understanding of secure architecture, identity and access management, compliance considerations, and data governance.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business-relevant language for senior leaders and external partners.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale digital programs with high organizational visibility.

  • Excellent analytical, consulting, and problem-solving skills.

  • High degree of organizational discipline with the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
