The Director of Software Development leads multi-disciplinary engineering organizations responsible for delivering, testing, and supporting enterprise software products. This role owns execution, quality, and operational outcomes across development, test, and PMO teams, while embedding AI and metrics-driven decision-making into daily engineering practice.
Local architects and development, test, and PMO managers report to this role.
Key Responsibilities- Own end-to-end software delivery through managers, aligning execution to business objectives, customer outcomes, and operational reliability.
- Establish and enforce modern SDLC practices across development, testing, and support.
- Drive AI-first engineering execution, embedding AI into development, testing, release, and support workflows as a standard operating model.
- Lead and coach engineering managers and architects, building a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and measurable outcomes.
- Operate a metrics-driven engineering organization using delivery, quality, and reliability signals to guide decisions.
- Oversee testing and support organizations to ensure high product quality, rapid incident resolution, and strong customer satisfaction.
- Identify delivery, quality, and operational risks and implement mitigation strategies informed by data and analytics.
- Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes clearly to senior leadership.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- Proven experience leading software development organizations through multiple layers of management.
- Strong background in metrics-driven engineering, including DORA metrics and SRE-informed operating models.
- Experience applying SRE principles such as SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, observability, and incident management.
- Demonstrated hands-on leadership integrating AI into software development, testing, and support workflows.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience with Agile and modern software delivery practices.
- Hands-on familiarity with modern programming languages, CI/CD, and cloud-native architectures.
- Experience with AI-assisted SDLC platforms, AIOps, and engineering analytics.
- Track record of improving delivery speed, quality, reliability, and customer outcomes using data and automation.
Full-time role in a collaborative environment. Occasional travel may be required.
