The Director of Software Development is responsible for defining, executing, and managing the full software lifecycle for internally developed medical device software. This includes collaborating with stakeholders to capture and prioritize requirements, leading development teams to design and implement solutions, and ensuring projects meet business, regulatory, and quality objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and update the software development strategy to streamline current workflows and enable future product growth.
- Oversee projects from planning through release, including scoping, prioritization, risk management, and resource allocation.
- Ensure delivery of projects within established timelines, budgets, and quality criteria, while demonstrating measurable business value.
- Lead, motivate, and manage a diverse team of senior and junior software engineers, fostering collaboration and alignment with corporate goals.
- Participate in hiring, performance evaluations, team development, conflict resolution, and corrective actions as needed.
- Develop and manage operating and capital budgets, ensuring fiscal discipline.
- Drive adherence to the company’s Code of Ethical Conduct, Quality System, ISO standards, and FDA regulations.
- Collaborate with R&D leadership on the development and launch of next-generation technologies and services.
- Guide outsourcing decisions to create efficiencies, reduce costs, and safeguard intellectual property.
- Champion the company’s culture with a focus on empowerment, accountability, creativity, and execution.
- Serve as a credible representative with physicians, consultants, suppliers, and internal partners.
Essential Functions
- Ensure all development activities comply with FDA GMP/QSR and ISO13485 requirements.
- Support a culture of continuous improvement aligned with the company’s Quality Policy and regulatory standards.
- Recommend and implement improvements to enhance the customer experience.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field (minimum requirement).
- 15 years of experience in the medical device industry, including at least 5 years in a team leadership role.
Skills and Competencies
- Proven leadership with the ability to develop strategy, drive execution, and deliver results.
- Expertise in agile development methodologies and software lifecycle management.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects and work cross-functionally across Engineering, Design, Customer Success, Marketing, and Business Development.
- Creativity, adaptability, and a proactive, professional approach in a fast-paced environment.

The annual base pay for this position is:
Min $293,000 - Max $439,400Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
If this is a commission eligible position the commission eligibility will be in accordance with the terms of the Company's plan. Commissions are based on individual performance and/or company performance.
