The Director of Social Media for Bon Appétit and Epicurious will partner with leadership across editorial, audience development, and video to lead, develop, and execute a social media vision and strategy across platforms for both brands (with a primary focus on Bon Appétit). Your ideas and execution will be viewed by and interacted with by millions of readers across all of our distribution channels. This role is responsible for bringing our stories, recipes, and brand personalities to life on social in innovative and exciting ways. This role will be measured in building community online, and extending the reach and amplification of our content across current and emerging platforms.
Candidates should be laser-focused on capturing our distinct brand voice on social media that spotlights our rigorously tested recipes, culture breaking stories, and curation of where to eat. Candidates should be adept at social media tactics to increase social engagement and referral traffic, and should be able to pair the brands’ mission with quantitative findings and analytics to make decisions on everything from copy and visuals to collaborators and new social platforms to explore. Candidates must have a proven track record of collaborating with creative and editorial, and video teams.
This role manages two social team members, reports to the Executive Director, Audience Development, and is based in our NYC office (Monday through Thursday in office; Fridays work from home).
Responsibilities:
Work closely with Bon Appétit and Epicurious editorial leadership and social media team members to lead and execute social media strategy for both brands.
Bring new, innovative ideas to push the brand’s boundaries across social channels.
Partner with editors across the team to bring stories to life online on all platforms including editorial and video, with the creative team and editorial leadership to shape Bon Appétit and Epicurious’ visual identity and presence across social media platforms.
Develop and maintain brand guidelines for both brands’ current and future social media channels, including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
Plan and execute social engagement campaigns and coverage for special editorial packages and tentpole events, including behind-the-scenes photos, videos, and live events.
Work closely with sales to develop creative opportunities and package and deliver against sponsorships across social platforms.
Collaborate with consumer marketing, commerce, and editorial teams on distribution strategies across social platforms that drive consumer revenue, commerce, and traffic, deliver against other key KPIs.
Spearhead, manage, and oversee social content for Condé Nast and brand partners.
Use site analytics to identify growth and engagement opportunities based on audience, data, and industry trends.
Requirements:
7+ years of relevant experience managing social media for a large brand or media publisher.
Significant management experience, including overseeing the work of others, guiding growth and performance, and ensuring deadlines and key objectives are met.
Demonstrated mastery of cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management.
Highly organized, able to juggle multiple projects, detail-oriented, and passionate about the sacredness of deadlines (but also comfortable with adapting as needed).
A strong knowledge of social analytics tools and social scheduling.
Proven success meeting site traffic and subscription goals, and executing tactics for brand KPIs.
Expert-level editorial judgment, writing, and editing skills, with a keen sense for how to develop and maintain a brand voice that will differentiate Bon Appétit from our competition.
An understanding of strategic decision making in pursuit of revenue and an eye on the marketplace for new ideas.
A passion for food and drink.
Comfort with appearing on video, audio, and at live events.
The expected base salary range for this position is from $130,000-$155,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
