Director of Safety
We are seeking a highly skilled Safety Director to build on our existing safety culture and develop a comprehensive, robust safety department for our nationwide operations. The ideal candidate will bring expertise and vision to enhance our safety protocols and ensure the well-being of our team members across all projects and locations.
The goal of the Safety Director is to lead a company safety program and culture that is built on a worker safety-first focus. In this role, you'll be responsible for continuing to develop, create, and oversee health and safety protocols for the company, ensuring that staff members are properly informed regarding emergency preparedness, the assessment and resolution of site-specific safety concerns, the use of protective equipment, and accident protocols.
To ensure success as a Safety Director, you should display exceptional knowledge of Construction and Engineering industry standards for safety policies and relevant Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Ultimately, an outstanding Safety Director should be able to quickly and efficiently identify opportunities to minimize workplace health hazards through a variety of workplace environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain and enhance organizational health and safety standards and practices by evaluating and improving health and safety conditions
• Assure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and governmental standards
• Establish site-level compliance with the Safety Management System and Safety Programs for each facility
• Provide effective leadership and engagement with each site to achieve world-class performance related to health, safety, and sustainability
• Coordinate all interaction with intercompany resources and external partners in conjunction with current policies and regulations
• Lead the continuous improvement and development of initiatives and programs to foster a culture of complete safety throughout the organization, leveraging best practices and behavior-based methodologies
• Guide the implementation of the Health and Safety strategy and strategic objectives across the company
• Direct continuous improvements to transform the company’s safety culture to one of best-in-class performance with a focus on eliminating incidents.
• Drive safety improvement in non-traditional work settings (creative/design, virtual, at client site)
• Regularly facilitate safety training programs for employees
• Survey, compile, and analyze data relating to occupational and safety and health issues such as chemical exposure, fall exposures, behaviors, and ergonomics
• Conduct routine safety audits
• Maintain systems and data in owner compliance systems (i.e., ISNetworld, Avetta, & similar)
• Provide hands-on support at the operating site level
• Monitor, analyze, and evaluate metrics that measure the effectiveness of Safety Strategy
implementation and overall compliance
• Develop and execute information solutions to enable efficient, accurate, and comprehensive reporting and information exchange
• Support management system implementation, training, and compliance
• Implement initiatives designed to identify, evaluate, prevent, and control safety-related hazards
• Conduct comprehensive assessments of critical programs such as fire prevention, emergency response, equipment safeguards, lockout/tagout, fall protection, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials
• Assess and optimize safety management systems and programs
• Monitor safety trends and regulations and incorporate them into training and programs
• Drive the implementation of behavior-based safe practices and initiatives
• Implement technical programs associated with facility risk factors and asset base, including risk mitigation and business continuity strategies
• Drive cost reduction and efficiency improvement associated with safety-related engineering controls and processes
• Plan, direct and coordinate activities of employees to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished
• Mentor, coach, train, and develop teams
• Assist HR in the administration of the Worker’s Compensation program, including working with the corporation to reduce employee lost time
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the company, and internal and external clients
• Capacity to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Safety Director Requirements:
· Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or similar degree area of study. with significant achievements in safety program development and implementation, or 10 years of progressively responsible experience in safety management within civil engineering, construction, or a related field
· Relevant certificate; Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Construction Health and Safety (CHST), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), Safety Management Specialist (SMS) or Professional Engineer (PE) License
· At least 3 years’ experience as a safety director or health and safety manager in the civil engineering or construction industry
· Possessing and applying comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations to effectively manage the safety programs of a civil engineering / construction firm
· Solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices in the workplace.
· Experience with Subcontractor Safety Protocol
· Familiarity with writing health and safety policies and procedures.
· Proficiency in conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.
· Working knowledge of safety management software, such as iAuditor, Avetta, SiteDocs, Safesite etc.
· Strong communication and teamwork skills.
· Excellent supervisory and leadership skills.
