The Director of Safety will spearhead our commitment to safety across five unique business units spanning multiple states in the southeast. This position serves as a dynamic leader shaping and executing comprehensive safety strategies, weaving safety seamlessly into the fabric of our business objectives. This position is instrumental in cultivating an environment where safety is ingrained in our organizational DNA, setting the benchmark for safety excellence across our diverse operations.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Position safety as a distinguished competitive differentiator, drawing upon your extensive industry expertise to drive innovation and foresight. 

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to design tailored safety solutions aligned with organizational goals and the unique needs of each business unit. 

  • Act as a catalyst for safety motivation and change, ensuring safety is ingrained and celebrated throughout Lee Company's work and culture. 

  • Empower employees to take ownership of safety, actively encouraging identification and correction of unsafe conditions through ongoing coaching and training. 

  • Actively seek, share, and implement best practices throughout the organization to continuously improve safety performance. 

  • Lead and develop a team of safety professionals, ensuring exceptional service and continuous growth. 

  • Drive continuous improvement within the safety team through processes, systems, tools, and metrics, optimizing overall safety performance. 

  • Develop, collect, and report performance metrics, providing regular briefings to leadership on company-wide safety compliance. 

  • Implement oversight processes to ensure ongoing corporate compliance with safety and environmental regulations, including continuous audits. 

  • Develop, review, and enforce safety policies and procedures. 

  • Facilitate immediate and thorough incident investigations, root cause analyses, site remediation, and closure of corrective actions. 

 

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a safety-related discipline preferred. 

  • 10+ years of safety leadership experience with a background in construction. 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, DOT, DOL, and other safety laws. 

  • Experience with a safety management system. 

  • Ongoing professional training or certifications (CSP, ASP, CRSP, CHST, CUSA, or similar). 

  • OSHA 10- and 30-Hour Construction and General Industry Authorized Outreach Trainer required. 

 

Skills and Abilities: 

  • In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and the ability to navigate complex compliance requirements. 

  • Proven leadership, management, and supervisory skills. 

  • Statistical analysis skills for incident data. 

  • Creative and assertive with a track record of implementing innovative safety solutions. 

  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and mobile technologies. 

  • Commitment to ongoing learning and continuous improvement. 

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. 

  • Availability to be on call for emergencies. 

  • Strong collaborative and presentation skills.
