Schochet is looking for an experienced Director of Risk Management to lead our company-wide risk management program and help protect nearly 6,000 apartments, 125,000 square feet of commercial space, and the people and communities we serve throughout New England.
For more than 50 years, Schochet has been a recognized leader in multifamily development and property management, with particular expertise in affordable housing. Our team develops, acquires, and manages properties with a focus on revitalizing communities and creating places where people want to live.
This is an opportunity to play a critical role in that work.
As Director of Risk Management, you will lead insurance program administration, claims management, vendor insurance compliance, contractual risk transfer, incident reporting, and loss prevention across our portfolio. You’ll partner with Property Management, Operations, Maintenance, Finance, and executive leadership to identify risks, solve problems, and develop practical strategies that protect our residents, employees, properties, and company.
What You'll Own
- Lead relationships with insurance brokers, carriers, adjusters, legal counsel, and other risk-management partners.
- Coordinate the annual insurance renewal process in partnership with the Company's insurance broker and Chief Financial Officer.
- Evaluate coverage, costs, exposures, and risk strategies and make recommendations to senior leadership.
- Own property and liability claims from incident through resolution, coordinating with internal teams, insurers, adjusters, and counsel.
- Ensure vendors meet insurance requirements and that contracts appropriately transfer and allocate risk.
- Develop and maintain effective incident reporting and loss prevention programs across the portfolio.
- Analyze claims and incident trends to identify recurring risks and recommend strategies to reduce losses and control costs.
- Partner with Operations, Property Management, and Maintenance to identify property, liability, safety, and operational risks—and implement practical corrective measures.
- Lead initiatives that strengthen Schochet's overall risk culture and promote proactive loss prevention.
What You Bring
- 5–8 years of experience in risk management, commercial insurance, claims administration, or insurance brokerage.
- Strong knowledge of commercial property and casualty insurance programs.
- Hands-on experience managing insurance claims and risk programs.
- Strong analytical, communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
- Commercial real estate or multifamily housing experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with Property, General Liability, Umbrella/Excess Liability, Workers' Compensation, Cyber Liability, Professional Liability, and Builder's Risk coverage.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
