POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Research Implementation provides scientific and operational leadership for the Global Center's portfolio of randomized controlled trials and implementation science studies across country-based activities. This role is accountable for the design, implementation, and successful execution of intervention research programs conducted in partnership with governments, academic institutions, healthcare organizations, and community partners across multiple international settings. The Director oversees research staff, implementation partners, and external collaborators while ensuring scientific rigor, operational excellence, and achievement of study objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide senior oversight of the implementation of complex research initiatives, ensuring that studies are executed effectively, efficiently, and in accordance with research protocols, organizational priorities, timelines, budgets, and established quality standards.
- Lead the scientific and operational oversight of randomized controlled trials, implementation science studies, and intervention research programs across multiple countries and implementation settings.
- Monitor research implementation across projects, proactively identifying operational risks, resource constraints, competing priorities, dependencies, and potential delays; develop mitigation strategies and escalate significant issues to leadership as appropriate.
- Directly manage the implementation of one or more large-scale, complex research projects, including development and management of project plans, timelines, budgets, staffing and resource needs, milestones, risks, and deliverables from study start-up through implementation and closeout.
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with research institutions, government entities, healthcare systems, and implementation partners supporting country-based research programs.
- Provide subject matter expertise, senior guidance and problem-solving support for complex study implementation activities, including study start-up, regulatory and Institutional Review Board requirements, site readiness, participant recruitment, field operations, data collection, research platforms, translation and cultural adaptation, and data quality
- Facilitate communication and coordination across vendors, investigators, research managers, research scientists, data and measurement teams, program teams, operations staff, and organizational leadership to support effective implementation and timely resolution of project issues.
- Perform other job-related duties as necessary.
MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a supervisory position and is responsible for recruiting and onboarding new staff, delegating work assignments, setting goals and expectations, delivering training and professional development opportunities, evaluating performance, delivering feedback and coaching, modeling organizational values, and fostering team cooperation and collaboration.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD in public health, epidemiology, psychology, behavioral or social sciences with a minimum 10 years of senior level, operations, or project management experience in global settings
- Significant experience managing complex research studies, including multi-site research, randomized controlled trials (RCTs),implementation science studies, and/or other interdisciplinary research programs, preferably involving multiple institutional or international partners.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills, including successfully leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated strategic and critical thinking.
- Must display strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written), systems thinking, and an understanding of project, financial, and organizational management.
- Able to rapidly build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders across diverse cultural and institutional settings.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and execution.
ADA RELATED QUALIFICATIONS
This position is based in a professional office environment. It requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, operate standard office equipment (including computers, phones, copiers, and printers), perform repetitive tasks, and communicate effectively with others. This position will involve periodic international travel.
