Director of Quality

Location: Columbus, OH
Job Type: Direct Hire
Salary: Starting at $100,000+ (Based on Experience)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Director of Quality to lead quality strategy, systems, and performance across a growing manufacturing operation. This leadership role is responsible for driving quality excellence, continuous improvement, compliance, and operational performance while ensuring products and processes consistently meet customer expectations and industry standards.

The ideal candidate is a strategic yet hands-on quality leader with a strong background in manufacturing environments and proven success implementing quality systems, reducing defects, and building high-performing teams.

Work Environment: Approximately 70% office-based and 30% manufacturing floor engagement.

Key Responsibilities

    Quality Leadership & Strategy
    • Develop and execute the organization's quality vision, strategy, and long-term objectives.
    • Establish quality goals aligned with business objectives and customer expectations.
    • Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
    • Partner with executive leadership, engineering, operations, and supply chain teams to drive quality initiatives.
    • Quality Systems & Compliance
      • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS).
      • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
      • Oversee internal and external audits, corrective actions, document control, and quality documentation processes.
      • Develop and standardize quality procedures across manufacturing operations.
      • Manufacturing Quality
        • Establish quality standards and process controls throughout production operations.
        • Drive reductions in defects, rework, scrap, and customer complaints.
        • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives.
        • Implement quality metrics and reporting systems to monitor performance and identify improvement opportunities.
        • Customer & Supplier Quality
          • Serve as the primary escalation point for customer quality concerns.
          • Support customer audits and quality reviews.
          • Develop supplier quality programs and performance metrics.
          • Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to improve product and process quality.
          • Team Leadership & Development
            • Lead, mentor, and develop quality personnel.
            • Build and scale the quality organization to support business growth.
            • Develop training programs that promote quality awareness and process discipline.
            • Foster collaboration across quality, manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain teams.
            • Performance Reporting
              • Develop and maintain quality KPIs and executive-level dashboards.
              • Communicate quality performance, trends, risks, and improvement initiatives to leadership.
              • Monitor cost-of-quality metrics, including scrap, rework, warranty claims, and customer complaints.

Qualifications

    Required
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
    • 10+ years of quality leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
    • Experience leading quality systems, compliance programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Strong knowledge of root cause analysis, corrective actions, process improvement methodologies, and quality management principles.
    • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive organizational change.
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    • Preferred
      • Experience in electrical equipment, industrial equipment, power distribution, control panels, or similar manufacturing industries.
      • Knowledge of fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, or custom manufacturing processes.
      • Experience supporting engineer-to-order (ETO) or configure-to-order manufacturing environments.
      • Strong understanding of ISO 9001 standards and audit processes.
      • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, ASQ, or related quality certifications.
