Job Description:
The Director, Project Engineering will be based in Hyderabad, India. In this position, you will report to the Senior Director, Project Engineering. This position will be responsible for managing the structural engineering team for utility-scale PV projects from the development phase through construction. Along with the structural engineering team, the Director of Project Engineering will manager a team of cross functional engineers ranging from PV power plant design engineers, civil engineers, and performance engineers. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, steel design and component sizing, foundation calculations, advanced structural tool development, and the preparation of structural documentation to support project quoting and engineering packages. The role will involve close coordination with cross-functional teams in the U.S., India, and other global offices including Sales, Project Management, Mechanical Engineering, and R&D. Here is a glimpse of what you will do:
- Directing the design team(Structural/Electrical/Civil) in Hyderabad and support regions.
- Perform detailed structural analysis and calculations to ensure the integrity and safety of solar structures based on project specific design parameters.
- Develop advanced structural analysis tools in coordination with the R&D and software teams
- Coordination with third party experts in wind tunnel testing, component analysis, and lifecycle testing.
- Lead structural engineering efforts for multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and efficient delivery to EPC customers
- Ensure all structural designs comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards (i.e ASCE, etc)
- Coordinate with project managers and other engineers, from various companies to align structural design within overall project objectives.
- Manage the relationship between EPC customers and structural EOR partners throughout the project design lifecycle, with direction from the engineering manager.
- Work cross-functionally with the Applications Engineering & Testing teams, as well as the Product Development, Machines, and Business Development functions.
- Contribute to the growth of Nextpower’s Design Services team by supporting process improvement and team development efforts.
Here is some of what you will need (required):
- Master’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (or equivalent) from IIT’s/NIT’s/Tier 1 Engineering colleges.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in structural engineering, ideally within the EPC solar industry.
- Hands-on experience in structural analysis and design, including dead, live, snow, wind, and seismic loads, design of steel and concrete structures, and development of construction documents.
- Advanced proficiency in finite element analysis software (RISA 3D, STAAD, or equivalent).
- Experience in static and dynamic structural analysis of solar tracker structures
- Strong knowledge of engineering standards, codes, and other applicable state and federal guidelines, including but not limited to IBC, ASCE, ASTM, AISC, AISI and ACI.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license in multiple states
- Experience in Software Development, Machine Learning, and/or Artificial Intelligence preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve design challenges.
- Flexible to travel (20% travel involved).
