The Director, Product Management - Technical Services is responsible for the oversight, implementation, and maintenance of Workers' Compensation products, regulatory compliance activities, bureau and state filings, and supporting business systems. This role serves as a critical liaison between Product Management, Underwriting, Actuarial, Operations, and Information Technology to ensure regulatory changes, product enhancements, and business requirements are accurately interpreted, implemented, tested, and maintained.
The Director is responsible for monitoring industry and regulatory developments, evaluating operational and system impacts, and driving implementation activities that support organizational objectives while ensuring compliance. In addition, this role owns the ongoing integrity of Workers' Compensation systems and configurations, ensuring that rates, rules, forms, underwriting guidelines, and product filings are accurately reflected within company systems and operating as intended. The position plays a key role in identifying, investigating, documenting, and resolving system issues, working closely with Information Technology and business stakeholders to prioritize enhancements, address defects, and continuously improve operational performance.
This position requires a strong combination of product expertise, regulatory knowledge, analytical capability, technical aptitude, and leadership skills to successfully manage product implementations, maintain system accuracy, and support strategic business initiatives
This position is hybrid out of any AmTrust office. 4 days in the office, 1 day work from home.
Responsibilities- Monitor and evaluate Workers' Compensation bureau circulars, regulatory bulletins, legislative updates, and industry developments to identify business impacts and implementation requirements.
- Manage the review, preparation, submission, and maintenance of Workers' Compensation product filings, including rates, rules, forms, and related regulatory documentation.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on Workers' Compensation products, regulatory requirements, and bureau environments, including NCCI and independent bureau states.
- Ensure company systems accurately reflect approved product filings, rates, rules, forms, underwriting guidelines, and business requirements.
- Monitor system performance and product implementation outcomes to ensure compliance, operational effectiveness, and alignment with business objectives.
- Investigate system discrepancies, operational concerns, and production issues; perform root cause analysis and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Partner closely with Information Technology to document, prioritize, test, and resolve system defects, enhancements, and configuration issues.
- Develop and maintain business requirements, implementation documentation, testing plans, and procedural controls supporting product and system changes.
- Lead and coordinate testing activities, including User Acceptance Testing (UAT), to validate system functionality and implementation accuracy.
- Utilize data and reporting tools, including advanced Microsoft Excel, to analyze business results, validate implementations, monitor performance, and support decision-making.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Underwriting, Actuarial, Operations, Claims, and Information Technology teams to successfully implement business and regulatory initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance system functionality, strengthen controls, and increase operational efficiency.
- Lead or support cross-functional projects and provide guidance on product, regulatory, operational, and technical matters.
- Manage, coach, and develop team members, including performance management, prioritization of work, training, and professional development.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance, Finance, Economics, Risk Management, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Workers' Compensation insurance with a strong background in Product Management, Underwriting, Technical Services, Regulatory Compliance, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Workers' Compensation rating, pricing, underwriting, regulatory filings, bureau rules, and policy administration processes.
- Experience utilizing Workers' Compensation bureau websites and resources (NCCI and independent bureau states) to research rules, rates, forms, and filing requirements.
- Experience monitoring industry circulars, regulatory bulletins, and bureau communications to identify and assess business impacts, compliance requirements, product changes, and implementation needs.
- Strong understanding of insurance systems, workflows, and operational impacts associated with product and regulatory changes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including the ability to create and maintain complex formulas, analyze and reconcile large datasets, develop pivot tables, perform data validation, and generate meaningful reports and dashboards to support business decisions.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, evaluate impacts, and recommend effective solutions.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills with the ability to communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and successfully execute projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience collaborating across departments, including Product, Underwriting, Actuarial, Compliance, Operations, and Information Technology.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, particularly in regulatory, system, and product implementation activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing Workers' Compensation product filings and interactions with state regulatory agencies.
- Extensive knowledge of NCCI and independent bureau state environments, including interpretation and implementation of bureau and regulatory changes.
- Project management experience leading cross-functional initiatives from planning through implementation.
- Experience validating system changes, conducting user acceptance testing (UAT), and supporting production implementations.
- Working knowledge of SQL and the ability to query and analyze data to support product and operational decision-making.
- Experience with business intelligence, reporting, or data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implement solutions that increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Previous leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring, or directing the work of analysts and other team members.
The expected salary range for this role is $114,700-$160,000/year.
