Director of Strategic OperationsPURPOSE AND SCOPE OF FUNCTION
The Director of Process Engineering provides strategic and technical leadership for the AP Production System (APPS). The role owns the Productivity, Lead Time, Flexibility and Innovation pillars across the plant's production value streams, along with the automation and capital program that supports them. This position establishes the process engineering strategy and standards for how work is designed, equipment is specified and integrated, process variation is controlled, capability is developed, and improvements are sustained. It partners across Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, Scheduling and Purchasing to translate technical opportunities into measurable improvements in productivity, reliability, quality, cost, lead time and capacity.
Key Responsibilities
Process Engineering & Production System Strategy
- Own the process engineering and manufacturing transformation strategy across all production value streams.
- Lead methods engineering, standardized work, line balance, workstation management, material flow, one-piece flow, pull systems and quick-changeover initiatives.
- Advance process innovation, manufacturability and DFMA in partnership with Engineering, including development of in-house equipment or fixtures where strategically advantageous.
Automation, Capital & Equipment Reliability
- Own the multi-year automation and capital equipment roadmap, including robotic cells, laser cutting, forming, welding automation and material handling.
- Establish equipment reliability and TPM strategy for automated and semi-automated assets, including OEE, preventive maintenance expectations and failure analysis.
- Define technical and functional requirements for new equipment and lead design review, acceptance testing, commissioning and production release while ensuring applicable machine safety standards are met.
- Build and govern the multi-year plant investment roadmap; lead capital justification, technical supplier/integrator negotiations, schedule and cost governance, and post-installation validation of committed savings.
Quality, Flow & Operational Performance
- Integrate quality into process design through error proofing, process control, first-time-through improvement, PFMEA/control-plan alignment and structured root-cause resolution.
- Provide Scheduling with demonstrated capacity and takt and lead material-flow engineering across departments to improve lead time and service performance.
Leadership & Capability Development
- Build organizational capability by establishing documentation and operating standards, developing supervisors and technical talent, and creating succession depth for critical process engineering and automation capabilities.
- Report performance, risks and corrective actions through the plant operating review and escalate significant schedule, cost or capability risks with recommended actions.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Plant environment requiring appropriate PPE, regular presence across operating shifts during commissioning and ramp-up, and approximately 25% domestic and international travel to suppliers, integrators and sister operations.
