Job Description Summary

Miami University’s College of Arts and Science (CAS) seeks a Director for the Henry Center for Pre-Law Education. The Director provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for the program, including management of the Sue Henry Pre-Law Suite and the program budget. This role works in close coordination with the CAS Dean’s Office, CAS Advising, the Center for Career Exploration and Success, and departmental faculty to ensure comprehensive mentoring and professional development for students with pre-law interests.

Job Description

Essential Duties

  • Provide individual and group advising for current undergraduates and alumnae/i, focusing on academic preparation, general career readiness, LSAT readiness, and the law school application and acceptance process.

  • Teach, coordinate, and develop specialized courses and instructional materials related to the study of law as administered by the Center.

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Pre-Law Alumni Advisory Board and the Mock Trial program; collaborate with the University Development Office on fundraising and alumni engagement.

  • Coordinate and solicit diverse experiential opportunities, including internships, job shadowing, mentoring, and research. Oversee signature events such as the annual Law Day and symposiums.

  • Regularly analyze Law School Admission Council (LSAC) data to present findings to the Advisory Board and prepare annual reports for the CAS Dean regarding admissions trends and program effectiveness.

  • Manage the Center’s budget and provide direct supervision to a pre-law advisor dedicated to the Center, undergraduate student workers, and graduate practicum students.

  • Partner with the Office of Admission to support student recruitment and retention; collaborate with University Communications and Marketing to manage program resources and external messaging.

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with law school admissions officers and represent Miami University within relevant professional associations.

  •  Provide training and resources for pre-law advisors across various academic departments and serve as a formal advisor to student pre-law organizations as requested.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Doctoral or Professional degree in Law (JD).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of law school.

  • Knowledge of law school administration process.

Desired:

  • Prior experience and record of success in working with pre-law students and undergraduate pre-law programming.

  • Skills pertinent to engaging students in general career and academic advising.

  • Skills and experience in engaging alumni.

  • Understanding of and experience with university academic environments.​
