Position Overview

Are you ready to lead planning excellence for one of the largest private label accounts in retail? As the Director of Walmart Planning, you will be at the heart of strategic decision-making—analyzing key product performance data, driving customer-focused strategies, and leading a high-impact team. Based in Secaucus, NJ, and reporting directly to the Vice President of Planning, you will have a unique opportunity to shape Walmart’s future by influencing planning decisions that fuel sustainable growth and profitability.

This role is perfect for a visionary leader who combines sharp analytical skills with strategic insight and enjoys collaborating across functions to deliver extraordinary business results.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a 13-month rolling forecast to optimize inventory levels and minimize excess stock.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales to proactively address all business opportunities and liabilities.
  • Set line revenue targets and deliver financial planning guidance for purchasing decisions, ensuring strong product category penetration.
  • Partner with the Product Manager to align forecasts with the financial flow of retail, ecommerce, and wholesale channels.
  • Analyze product performance to identify gaps or discrepancies, making actionable recommendations for improvement.
  • Continuously monitor demand planning and inventory needs across retail, ecommerce, and wholesale operations.
  • Direct and oversee all reporting, including weekly updates on top-line selling performance.
  • Synthesize selling data at the style, color, and size level, providing recommendations to support merchandising and inventory planning for growth.
  • Conduct deep dive analyses and reviews, using open-to-buy metrics as a guiding tool.
  • Build collaborative relationships with cross-functional partners in sales, design, and production to improve inventory, revenue, returns, promotions, and markdown forecasting.
  • Play a key role in forward budget planning by utilizing open-to-buy metrics to guide financial decisions.
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities to improve forecast accuracy, establish action plans, and ensure timely follow-up.
  • Manage budget processes, including product mix, budget category ratios, monthly flow, and monthly forecasts for key replenishment programs.
  • Oversee inventory management from investment through execution, including ongoing assessments and updates to inventory levels, models, release strategies, and recommendations for future receipts.
  • Develop and execute strategies for size, pack, and size balancing.
  • Partner with functional teams such as Warehouse and Information Technology to enhance processes, systems, and reporting as needed.
  • Present strategic recommendations and business insights to executive leadership, including the CEO and President, ensuring clarity and impact.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • 10+ years of experience in merchandise planning and allocation, with a strong background in retail environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience managing a team and influencing across business functions.
  • Collaborative team-player and proactive problem solver, adept at managing deadlines in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Highly motivated, organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to draw data-supported conclusions and provide robust recommendations.

PAY RATE: $130,000/yr-$170,000/yr
