About the Role The Director of Physician Liaison is responsible for building Legent Health's physician liaison program--designing the program, hiring and leading a team of market-level physician liaisons, and establishing the systems, standards, and culture that will define how Legent engages its physician partners. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role is the architect and operational leader of physician engagement across the Legent portfolio of surgical facilities. The Director of Physician Liaison must be a credible leader who can recruit and coach high-performing liaisons, build market coverage strategies, and personally step in to manage key physicians relationships at Legent's most important facilities. The role will spend near term functioning as a player-coach--personally managing physician relationships in priority markets while simultaneously recruiting and onboarding the team that will eventually own those markets. Over time, the Director's focus will shift toward program leadership, team development, and enterprise-level physician engagement strategy. This position requires regular travel, including visits to Legent-affiliated facilities, physician events, and support of liaison team members in their markets.

POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

  • Design and launch Legent's physician liaison program--defining the model, building the playbook, and establishing the infrastructure, tools, and processes that will support a growing team.s
  • Define role & scope of activities for market-level physician liaisons.
  • Develop and manage a program that is fully compliant with all applicable Federal, State & Local laws, statues and regulations.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop a team of market-level physician liaisons, providing ongoing coaching, performance management, and professional development.
  • Define market coverage strategies and assign territories or accounts across the liaison team to maximize physician reach and relationship depth.
  • Personally manage key relationships with physicians and practice managers in priority markets, especially during the early phase of program buildout and at newly acquired facilities.
  • Serve as a conduit between physician partners/practice managers and Legent's operational, development, and executive teams, in particular concerning provider issues of concern & patient experience challenges.
  • Build and maintain reporting frameworks that track physician engagement, referral activity, utilization trends, and liaison team performance across all markets.
  • Develop and oversee physician & practice manager engagement programs that scale across the Legent portfolio.
  • Partner with the integration and development teams to introduce the physician liaison model in new markets, ensuring physician partners are engaged from day one.
  • Establish and enforce CRM standards across the liaison team, ensuring consistent documentation of physician interactions, preferences, and commitments.
  • Collaborate with Legent leadership on ancillary service line development, physician practice integration, and other strategic initiatives where physician engagement is a critical success factor.
  • Strong understanding of the surgical facility landscape--how ASCs and surgical hospitals operate, how physicians make decisions, and what drives physician loyalty and utilization.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills--you can inspire and hold accountable a geographically dispersed team while remaining personally credible with the physicians your team serves.
  • High degree of self-motivation, accountability, and follow-through- you can hold yourself and your team to a high standard of follow-through.
  • Experience building or managing CRM-based physician engagement workflows, including team-level reporting, activity tracking, and performance dashboards.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly--both for personal physician engagement and to support and accompany team members in their markets.
  • Set clear goals and expectations; provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance reviews.
  • Develop talent through mentoring, training, and career development initiatives.
  • Promote a collaborative and engaging work environment that aligns with company values.
  • Manage conflict and make timely decisions to maintain team focus and performance.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and development conversations.
  • Approve timecards, schedules, time-off requests, and other administrative HR functions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, labor laws, and safety regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong understanding of the surgical facility landscape--how ASCs and surgical hospitals operate, how physicians make decisions, and what drives physician loyalty and utilization.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills--you can inspire and hold accountable a geographically dispersed team while remaining personally credible with the physicians your team serves.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 

  • 7+ years of experience in physician-facing roles, including at least 3 years managing or leading a physician liaison, provider relations, or healthcare sales team.
  • Demonstrated experience building or significantly scaling a physician outreach or liaison program-including hiring, process design, and team performance management.
  • Commitment to compliance and acting in accordance with all applicable laws, statutes & regulations.
  • Prior experience building a physician liaison or provider relations program at a multi-site or platform-level healthcare organization preferred.
  • Background in healthcare business development, physician recruitment, or provider network management at a regional or national scale preferred.
  • Familiarity with ASC or surgical hospital governance structures, physician ownership models, and the dynamics of physician-owned facilities.
  • Experience in medical device, pharma, or healthcare services sales with high physician contact volume.
  • Experience working within a large surgery platform or health system with a formal physician engagement or relations program.
