The Director, Payer Systems and Applications Technology Consulting is a leader within the Optum Advisory Service.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Acts as a trusted advisor across client organization and builds deep relationships with clients and peers
- Formulates business and technical solution architecture for healthcare payer system implementation, migration and / or modernization projects
- Participates in the pursuit of new opportunities and drives the expansion of existing accounts
- Manages end-to-end technical delivery of payer system and application projects, including day-to-day oversight of project team members and quality review of team deliverables
- Serves as a first point of escalation for project team members, helping to remove blockers and effectively manage delivery risks
- Effectively manages engagement scope, budget, schedule, risks and proactively communicates with client if/when scope may require adjustment and facilitate customer conversations related to changing dynamics
- Build consensus among client stakeholders who play a critical role in the client's ability to successfully implement the identified solutions
- Leads team on how to make written communication and design of key deliverables more compelling (e.g., subject matter expertise and industry or client knowledge)
- Contribute to practice-level initiatives including service offering development and thought leadership beyond client project work
- Conduct research studies that may include collecting, analyzing, trending and presenting data and recommendations to management
- Provide coaching and mentoring of project team with the goal of developing and retaining talent within the organization

Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of relevant health care work experience (health care insurance, health care operations or health care management consulting)
- 5+ years of healthcare consulting experience, within Healthcare Payer Business
- 5+ years demonstrated program, project and/or team leadership experience with customer or client facing accountabilities
- Proven business development experience and success generating at least $1.5M+ annually in new sales
- Experience across multiple lines of health care payer lines of business, including Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, ACA and Family/Individual coverage, among others
- Demonstrated experience in customer or client relationship management
- Experience writing and developing client facing materials in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio and Project
- Proven experience in Agile development methodology, including Capability Management and Program Increment Planning
- Demonstrated ability to work in complex, highly matrixed fast-paced environments
- Proven analytical problem-solving skills (identification of issue, causes, solution, implementation plan)
- Proven large scale systems/core administrative platform (Facets, Health Rules) technology implementation experience in an agile development environment
- Ability to travel domestically based on client needs

- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Proven written and verbal communication skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $132,200 to $226,600 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
