Help us use technology to make a big green dent in the universe!

Kraken powers some of the most innovative global developments in energy.

We’re a technology company focused on creating a smart, sustainable energy system. From optimising renewable generation, creating a more intelligent grid and enabling utilities to provide excellent customer experiences, our operating system for energy is transforming the industry around the world in a way that benefits everyone.

It’s a really exciting time in energy. Help us make a real impact on shaping a better, more sustainable future.

Kraken

Kraken is the operating system of the future for utilities. Clients adopt Kraken to improve customer experience, reduce cost-to-serve and accelerate innovation.

To achieve this, utilities must move beyond functional, activity-led structures and evolve into customer-centric, product-enabled, data-driven enterprises.

Kraken’s Global Practice Leads define the global standards for Operating Model, Innovation and Data.

The Org Design Director ensures those standards are applied and embedded in live client transformations — creating a coherent enterprise thread across operating model, innovation and data.

The role

As an Org Design Director, you are the applied enterprise operator within client transformations.

You serve as a trusted advisor to C-suite and senior operational leaders, helping them design and embed operating models that deliver measurable customer and commercial outcomes.
You translate global standards into operating models that work in real client environments, protecting stability while driving meaningful transformation.

You operate across multiple accounts, ensuring consistency, discipline and accountability across the Build–Operate–Transfer lifecycle.

Key Deliverables:

  • Own the applied design and execution of client operating models across customer operations and adjacent business functions, ensuring alignment around customer outcomes, governance, decision rights and performance management.
  • Integrate Operating Model, Innovation and Data workstreams into a coherent enterprise transformation approach within each client.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to C-suite and senior operational leaders, confidently challenging sequencing, trade-offs and behaviours that undermine long-term outcomes.
  • Maintain oversight across multiple client accounts, identifying structural, behavioural and capability risks early and orchestrating targeted interventions.
  • Provide senior operational oversight across complex transformation programmes, ensuring the right capability is deployed at the right time while balancing pace and stability.
  • Coach client leaders and senior delivery teams through complex organisational challenges, sharing lived experience and applied judgement.
  • Partner with Global Practice Leads and Human Design to feed client learning back into global standards and strengthen the Org Design community globally.

What you'll bring:

  • Hands-on experience designing and running operating models in complex, regulated environments such as Energy, Utilities, Telco or Public Sector.
  • Strong understanding of how customer experience, product, operations and data must integrate to deliver enterprise outcomes.
  • Proven ability to balance global standards with local reality, identifying structural and behavioural risks early.
  • Credibility with C-suite and senior operational leaders, able to influence and challenge constructively.
  • Advanced facilitation skills and the ability to lead outcome-driven executive workshops across cultures.
  • Deep appreciation of the human impact of organisational change, partnering closely with Human Design to embed sustainable transformation.
  • Comfort operating within a global practice model, contributing insight, mentoring others and scaling impact across regions.

What you'll need:

  • North American Energy Industry experience is a big bonus for us
  • This role is based out of our New York office 3 days a week, but you will be expected to travel frequently to clients across North America (once every 2-3 weeks).
  • Ability to understand what success looks like for a client
  • A flair for influencing and natural ability to “sell” different ways of working
  • Proven experience in building relationships and trust with clients
  • Right to live and work in the United States

Why you'll love it here:

  • Great medical, dental, and vision insurance options including FSAs.
  • Paid time off — we know working hard means also being able to recharge as needed, we trust our employees to get the work done and take the time they need.
  • 401(k) plan with employer match.
  • Parental leave. Biological, adoptive and foster parents are all eligible.
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits.
  • Flexible working environment: you need to shift around your schedule? You do you, we genuinely believe in work/life balance.
  • Equity Options: every Octopus employee owns part of the business. We’re a team, working together towards huge goals. Every person is crucial to our success, you should be rewarded as such.
  • Modern office or co-working spaces depending on location.
  • The salary range for this role in NYC ranges on average from $185,000-$220,000 depending on your relevant experience, and interview performance. Not all candidates will be placed at the top of the range—this will be determined by the overall fit for the position. If you have questions about this, just ask!
