DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

Overview

The Director of Operations ensures that Anchor Church has the infrastructure and organizational health to accomplish its ministry objectives. This role builds and maintains the systems across facilities, finance, technology, and HR so that ministry at Anchor thrives.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities

  • Own facility operations: maintenance, repairs, janitorial oversight, and vendor management.

  • Champion hospitality across all Anchor spaces by ensuring environments are welcoming and well-kept.

  • Manage scheduling and space allocation across teams and ministry areas.

  • Lead improvement projects and renovations from planning through completion, on budget and on time.

  • Develop and maintain safety systems, security, parking plans, and emergency action protocols.

  • Ensure implementation of child protection and safe church policies; rehearse emergency plans with staff and key volunteers.

Finance & Administration

  • Lead the annual budgeting process with the Lead and Executive Pastors.

  • Oversee accounts payable, expense reimbursements, and giving platform management.

  • Track and report key organizational health metrics — giving trends, attendance, donor health — and ensure follow-up when gaps emerge.

  • Manage vendor contracts, audit preparation, and nonprofit regulatory compliance.

Staff & Human Resources

  • Own the staff infrastructure: onboarding and offboarding, benefits administration, payroll coordination, background checks, and handbook maintenance.

  • Maintain org structure with the Executive Pastor: org charts, job descriptions, compensation frameworks, and review rhythms.

  • Ensure compliance with employment law and HR best practices, partnering with legal or HR consultants as needed.

  • Foster a staff culture where people feel administratively supported.

Technology & Systems

  • Own and optimize Planning Center: data integrity, team training, and full utilization across all ministry areas.

  • Oversee IT infrastructure: networks, computers, and office equipment.

  • Drive adoption of tools that reduce friction and increase ministry capacity.

Requirements

  • Vibrant, growing relationship with Jesus Christ and deep alignment with Anchor's mission, values, and culture.

  • Understands operational leadership as a form of pastoral ministry.

  • Proven experience in operations or organizational management; church, nonprofit, or comparable environment.

  • Systems thinker who sees gaps and builds structures that scale.

  • Strong financial acumen: comfortable owning budgets, reading reports, and making stewardship decisions.

  • People-first approach; organized and process-driven, but always aware that people are the point.

  • Excellent communicator across staff, vendors, volunteers, and leadership.

  • Self-directed and adaptable across multiple congregations and a growing organization.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $65,000–$75,000, commensurate with experience and scope

  • Employer-contributed health and dental insurance

  • Employer-contributed retirement plan

  • Paid time off

  • Reports To: Lead Pastor

  • Status: Full-time preferred; compensation and hours are commensurate with experience and scope.

  • Location: Anchor Church – Tacoma, WA

  • Excellent communication skills with staff, vendors, volunteers, and leadership.
  • Self-directed and adaptable across multiple congregations and a growing organization.
  • Completion of background check for final candidates.
  • Full-time availability preferred.
