SUMMARY:

The Director of Operations serves as the senior operational leader for an assigned regional office and is accountable for the successful execution of all construction operations within that market. This position provides high-quality leadership and oversight for project management, field operations, scheduling, staffing, profitability, and client satisfaction, and owns the regional office's Profit & Loss. The Director of Operations ensures projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications, while leading and mentoring the project teams. This role maintains relationships with existing clients and surfaces their future work.

EXPERIENCE:

12+ years in the construction industry working for a General Contractor; 5+ years tenure at past places of employment; experience overseeing large commercial construction projects.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Engineering, or Business, or other commensurate experience.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Regional Operations Leadership:

• Manage and support company initiatives and goals within the regional office.

• Provide expert oversight and sound decision-making across all project management aspects of the construction process.

• Ensure consistency in project execution, quality standards, and operational procedures.

• Determine manpower assignments for each project.

• Set targets, objectives, and responsibilities for all supervised staff.

Leadership & Team Development:

• Lead and mentor Project & Field Management leadership for respective region.

  • Conduct performance reviews and set SMART goals while outlining a path to promotion for direct reports.

• Make recommendations of merit raises and promotions.

• Communicate wage, fringe benefits, and HR documentation with the CFO and EVP of People Development/HR Specialist

  • Assist in the development of department-based training programs.

Financial & Profit/Loss Management:

• Assume full responsibility for the regional office Profit & Loss statement.

• Lead PPR meetings to review project budgets and projected profitability.

• Develop operational budgets and monitor office financial performance.

• Identify financial risks and implement corrective actions.

• Collaborate with the CFO and SVP of Revenue Management to optimize profitability.

Project Delivery Oversight:

• Ensure all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to specification.

• Lead 30- and 60-Day Audit Meetings.

  • Lead PPR Meetings to ensure projects are on time on under budget.

• Monitor and track closeout goals (30/60/120).

• Review contracts and ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled for delivery of a high-quality product.

• Communicate with team and clients to resolve contract disputes and mitigate the impact of construction issues.

Existing Client Relationship Management:

• Serve as a Pogue Construction ambassador and the senior operational relationship holder for current clients throughout project delivery, ensuring expectations are met.

• Support Sr. Project Managers and Project Managers in updating clients and board members on project progress as needed.

• Understand and document future work with existing clients, and communicate to regional VP of Client Relations or SVP of Revenue Management.

Relationship & Industry Engagement:

• Serve as a relationship builder with subcontractors.

• Maintain involvement in industry organizations.

• Recommend policy and procedure improvements.

• Other duties as assigned.

Skills Required

  • 12+ years in the construction industry working for a General Contractor
  • 5+ years tenure at past places of employment
  • Experience overseeing large commercial construction projects
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Engineering, Business, or commensurate experience
  • Proven P&L management and strong financial acumen
  • Project management and field operations oversight, including scheduling and closeout tracking
  • Leadership and team development experience, including performance reviews and succession planning
  • Contract review and dispute resolution experience
  • Client relationship management and business development awareness
  • Strong verbal and written communication, time management, and ability to handle high-stress situations
