Nexus Neurorecovery Center – San Antonio is a specialized residential treatment program dedicated to supporting adolescent females with behavioral health challenges and complex medical needs. Our multidisciplinary team provides individualized treatment in a structured, therapeutic environment focused on recovery, growth, and successful community reintegration.

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and strategic direction of the Nursing Department. The DON ensures the highest standards of patient care, regulatory compliance, staff development, quality improvement, and operational excellence.

This executive leadership role requires independent judgment, strong clinical expertise, and the ability to lead nursing operations in a dynamic healthcare environment. The Director of Nursing is expected to maintain accountability for nursing services and be available for on-call responsibilities as needed.

Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership & Patient Care
  • Establish and maintain the highest standards of nursing practice and patient care.
  • Lead clinical discussions with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Promote evidence-based practice and support clinical decision-making.
  • Ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care delivery.
  • Review patient satisfaction feedback and implement improvements based on identified trends.
  • Support development and implementation of patient care programs and clinical initiatives.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning, including fire, disaster, evacuation, security, and utility management programs.
Nursing Operations & Staff Development
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and development for nursing leaders and staff.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and support professional growth initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to recruit, retain, and develop top nursing talent.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels to support patient care needs.
  • Maintain oversight of staff competencies, certifications, licensure, and educational requirements.
  • Communicate organizational priorities and strategic goals to nursing personnel.
  • Participate in on-call leadership coverage and ensure appropriate departmental coverage when unavailable.
Financial & Strategic Management
  • Develop and manage the annual Nursing Department budget.
  • Monitor departmental financial performance and productivity metrics.
  • Prepare and present monthly budget variance and operational reports.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of clinical quality indicators and operational initiatives.
  • Participate in strategic planning and organizational growth initiatives alongside executive leadership.
Quality, Compliance & Patient Safety
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Compliance leadership on performance improvement projects.
  • Review incident reports and identify trends requiring intervention.
  • Support infection prevention, patient safety, risk management, and regulatory readiness efforts.
  • Maintain nursing practices that support hospital licensure and accreditation requirements.
Leadership & Community Engagement
  • Serve as a member of key hospital committees, including Quality, Infection Control, Pharmacy & Therapeutics, and Medical Staff Committees.
  • Foster collaboration across departments to support organizational goals.
  • Represent the facility with community organizations, healthcare partners, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Build positive relationships with patients, families, staff, physicians, and external stakeholders.
QualificationsEducation
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of direct patient care experience
  • Leadership experience in nursing management or healthcare operations required
  • Behavioral health, residential treatment, pediatric, adolescent, or specialty healthcare experience strongly preferred
Licensure & Certifications
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas
  • Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
